Few sectors are as dynamic, complex, multidisciplinary and socially important as the infrastructure sector. The sector is on the move on all fronts. Innovation, digitalization and sustainability require more and, above all, better trained professionals.
"Besides attracting young talent and lateral entrants, developing the skills and competencies of professionals is crucial for a vital infrastructure sector," says Martijn van Holten, manager of education & training at the Infra Academy of the BOB-KOB. For the past year, he and his team have been busy realizing the Infra Academy.
Van Holten: "With our new Infra Academy we want to contribute to the training and development of professionals who want to make it in civil engineering. The Infra Academy has education, training and courses for every level. Everyone can come to us for the development of professional knowledge as well as social skills, from starters and lateral entrants to experienced professionals."
"The courses are taught by leading teachers who work in practice and have earned their spurs in their fields. The classes are practice-oriented with appealing examples, in which we increasingly use modern teaching methods such as blended teaching, e-learning and project-based learning."
Because every company is unique with specific challenges and ambitions, it is sometimes desirable to develop a customized training program. One example is the in-company training program that BOB-KOB developed together with BAM Infra Telecom. "Together we developed a course for three groups of employees," says Van Holten. "For each position, the course is tailored to the knowledge required as well as the skills required. An advantage of such a customized course is that you can include practical examples from the company. For example, BAM Infra Telecom's own processes, systems and lists were included in the course material. This made the theory immediately recognizable for the participants. In addition, it's obviously nice to have a group of employees at the same level all at once."
ok there is thought for people who do not have time for long-term training, but want to deepen their knowledge. Van Holten: "Last year we developed the Specials for Professionals. These are short courses and trainings of up to 4 days. These aim to further develop professionals with several years of work experience within their positions in the areas of project management, leadership and personal development and sustainability."
