Sustainable retaining walls: better for the environment and your wallet

At InfraTech 2023, Bosch Beton proudly presented a number of new, sustainable concrete recipes. In line with this, the focus during the upcoming exhibition edition will be on the LG-paving walls, or Green Series. An innovative and cleverly composed product family that not only uses the more sustainable 3rd generation concrete mix, but also has an alternative reinforcement principle, drastically reducing CO2 emissions. All this without having to make concessions on quality and while retaining the structural properties that are so characteristic of the retaining wall specialist's products.

By now it is a well-known fact: innovation and sustainability are emphatically at the heart of Bosch Beton. The new LG-paving walls, which have been on the market since September 2024 under the name Green Series, are the most up-to-date result of this. "With this revolutionary product, specifically designed to drastically reduce CO2 emissions, we are once again making significant strides in our mission to make the construction industry greener," says Brechtje van den Beuken, co-CEO of Bosch Beton in Barneveld. "Moreover, our customers are a lot more affordable with this product. So the knife cuts both ways."

Incentive

With the Green Series retaining walls, Bosch Beton once again provides proof that sustainability and cost efficiency can go well together. The innovation is a win-win for the environment and user. "First of all, during production we replace traditional concrete reinforcement with an environmentally friendly variant," says Brechtje. "The new reinforcement reduces emissions by about 16%. In addition, we use a sustainable 3rd generation concrete mix, which reduces cement use by 50%. This combination significantly reduces the ecological footprint. The product reduces both CO2 emissions and environmental impact. We hope these figures serve as an incentive for our customers while choosing more sustainable alternatives."

Product family 

The new LG retaining walls from Bosch Beton are specially designed for lighter load applications in civil engineering. The product is available from stock in several lengths. "Our new product family is initially available in heights of 50, 75 or 100 centimeters," explains Brechtje. "In addition, for corner solutions we supply fixed L-turn wall corner elements. Solutions that we will be happy to show to trade show visitors during InfraTech 2025."     

Practical advantages

Bosch Concrete's durable retaining wall solutions offer several advantages:

- The retaining wall has an overall net height, making it easy to measure and install;
- The foot side is the load side;
- The angled backing creates an attractive, dimensionally stable and straight retaining wall after installation;
- Green Series retaining walls have a lifespan of at least 50 years.
