During the open days at Tobroco Giant on Sept. 28 and 29, the doors of the Experience Center and production halls were wide open to the public. Founded by Toine Brock in 1996, the company has grown to become one of the largest compact wheel loader manufacturers in the world, with more than 40 models and a choice of over 650 different attachments. On average, 120 machines roll off the line every week.
As gigantic as the name Giant suggests, the open days in Oisterwijk, Brabant, were just as grand. The manufacturer not only revealed all the latest technological developments, but also offered visitors a whirlwind demo show and a look behind the scenes of the production process. The highlight of the open days was the presentation of the G2400, G2400HD, G2550HD and G2550HD+, which were not only designed to meet the growing demand from the market, but also show what future Giants will look like in terms of design.
Although still in the concept phase, Toine made it clear that the launch of the four models marks an important milestone for Giant, setting new standards in productivity, comfort and versatility. The compact loaders are designed to fulfill a wide range of applications, making them an ideal choice for professionals in construction, agriculture, landscaping and other applications. The models are powered by a three-cylinder Kubota diesel engine with 26 hp (G2400 series) or 50 hp (G2500) and production will officially begin in late 2025.
The articulated loaders feature a futuristic design, coming from an Italian design firm. The angular lines and sharp creases will be seen on all future models of the brand. Driver comfort has also been taken to the next level, thanks to a sprung driver's seat with integrated armrest console. All controls have been positioned so that the vast majority of functions are practically and ergonomically within easy reach. This should result in less fatigue and optimum productivity during the working day.
In and around the newly opened Experience Center in late 2022, Giant models were displayed in every imaginable color, finish and application, so visitors could get a good idea of the unparalleled versatility of machine types and attachments. Of course, many also took a seat themselves behind the wheel or joysticks of a compact articulated loader, telehandler, telehandler or skid steer. In addition, Tobroco Giant has for some time had an extensive compaction program and those vibratory plates or rammers could also be tried out.
As a Dutch manufacturer, Tobroco Giant is in the middle of the testing ground for emission-free equipment, so it makes sense that several models have already been electrified. In time, Toine has set the goal of having a battery-electric version of every Giant available. After the G2200E - about a thousand of which were sold within five years - the brand is responding to the growing demand for environmentally friendly alternatives with the G2700E. With this, Tobroco Giant seems poised to play an important role worldwide when it comes to sustainable and powerful construction solutions.
With a dead weight of nearly 2,600 kg and a powerful 48V lithium-ion battery, the G2700E is ideal for heavy-duty tasks such as lifting pallets of stones or sidewalk tires. In the X-Tra version, this electric articulated loader is good for 12.5 kN of pulling power and tipping loads of up to 3,435 kg. "With the G2700E, we have a durable asset on our hands, without compromising on service life or performance." The standard 260 Ah of battery capacity is expandable to 390 Ah or even 520 Ah, making it suitable for long-term deployment. The regenerative braking system also recovers energy during coasting or descent.
The open days at Tobroco Giant attracted some 20,000 visitors, reflecting the unprecedented success of this family business. In addition to Toine and his wife Caroline, their children Koen, Marieke and Simone also play an increasingly prominent role. The future therefore looks bleak, because what began over 27 years ago with the production of 75 articulated loaders has grown to an impressive 6,000-plus (telescopic) wheel loaders, telehandlers and skid steers per year. Recently, the 50,000th Giant rolled off the line. The machines find their way to customers in more than 80 countries.
