GOTIK method: what is it and what are its advantages?

GOTIK method: what is it and what are the benefits?

The GOTIK Method is a method for controlling named aspects in project management. The aspects are: Money, Organization, Time, Information and Quality. Project-based work is a complex and comprehensive way of working within the construction industry. Often a methodology is then used that suits the organization, similarly the principle GOTIK is regularly used in the methodologies.

GOTIK stands for:

  • Money : the total financial resources needed to finance the project. Further explanation: money is needed directly for a project, to realize the project. In addition, money is needed in the project itself, for initiative, preparation, supervision of implementation and aftercare.
  • Organization : the total of persons, companies, parties and other entities that can undertake activities within but also from outside for the project. This organization is often made clear in an organization chart. Within the organization chart, it is important to indicate for each entity what its duties, powers and responsibilities are.
  • Time : the time aspect of the project per se and all aspects of time around the project. Further explanation: time here means the time taken by the project itself and all the time needed to initiate, prepare, execute the project and the time necessary for aftercare.
  • Information : all available information available prior to the project in the development stage, during the implementation phase and afterwards in the aftercare phase was present, added from outside and produced within the project.
  • Quality : the totality of quality characteristics and quality assurances required for the prospect to be successful and delivered. Further explanation: for the project, there is a demand for quality with respect to the end result, but also with respect to the way in which the project is created and the way in which things are related.

The advantages of Gotik

An advantage of the method is the concise way in which the five aspects collectively lay a solid foundation under each project. A disadvantage of the method is that it only provides tools to control the five aspects. In principle, it is possible within the "gotik" method to deliver a good project that ultimately fails to meet the demands of the customer who has an interest in the (success of) the project.

Gotik or Grotik

Therefore, there are voices calling for adding at least one more letter to the "gotik" method: the D of Purpose: the defined end result to be achieved within the given time, money and quality, based on the available information and using the available organization.
