In GWW, efficiency often makes the difference between a smoothly running project and a costly delay. Many companies in the industry still struggle with duplicate data entry, loose systems and slow information flow between execution and the office. BouwInfosys' user-friendly, integrated InfraWorks breaks this pattern with a simple but powerful promise: data is entered once - right where it originates - and is immediately available company-wide.
Earthworkers, machinists and superintendents provide a considerable amount of crucial information on a daily basis: time records, materials used, deployment of equipment, transportation data and sometimes even specific measurements or weighing data. In many organizations, this information is still manually transcribed, processed in spreadsheets or sent to the office via stand-alone tools. Not only is this time-consuming, it also increases the risk of errors and can mean that up-to-date information is often available too late to make quick adjustments.
InfraWorks changes this radically. "Employees in the field enter their data directly via a user-friendly app or tablet," says Arno Berwers, responsible for marketing & sales at the Helvoirt-based software supplier. "Man and machine hours, transport registrations, weighbridge data and digital work orders are registered on the spot. This prevents a pile of administration at the end of the day, double entry in the office and discussions about unclear handwriting or missing data."
The software is not a generic ERP solution, but rather developed in close cooperation with companies in civil engineering. As a result, the package fits very well with the reality of the shop floor. Including specific functions, such as waste flow management and capacity planning for people and machines. "Interface and underlying workflows are tailored to the real world: clear fields, logical steps and minimal typing or clicking," said Berwers. "Even for employees who do not work with computers on a daily basis, the operation is intuitive."
The real advantage of InfraWorks is in its integration with the rest of the organization. Once an excavator has entered his hours on his phone or a driver has registered a transport on a tablet (or mobile), this information is immediately available to the employees in the office. "In terms of planning, the software ensures that personnel, equipment and materials are intelligently deployed," Berwers continues. "For project administration, the tool provides up-to-date progress reports and cost monitoring. But it goes further. The invoicing department can invoice work faster and without errors. And in terms of inventory management, the tool offers every possibility to keep a sharp eye on deliveries and consumption." Because all departments work with the same up-to-date information, the risk of errors (and the associated failure costs) is greatly reduced. Double registrations, outdated data and inconsistencies are therefore definitely a thing of the past.
Outside the company walls, the benefits are just as great. "For example, the outside foreman can use the foreman portal on the tablet to keep track of production on the various specification items within the project," Berwers explains. "Immediately after entering the data, the weekly statement can be declared final and the term sheet prepared."
Many municipalities and other clients enter into framework agreements for recurring work. With InfraWorks, these can easily be registered on a tablet and settled via the specifications administration. That saves a lot of (paper) work! Not surprisingly, many companies have now integrated the software into their daily work processes. The result is more efficiency, peace of mind and overview. "Everything is in one system: from calculation to invoicing," Berwers believes. "Because everyone is looking at the same information, decisions can be made faster. InfraWorks significantly shortens and improves the information chain. Users who wish to streamline their processes and be ready for tomorrow's requirements are therefore taking a logical step forward with the package."
