Electric and vibration-free foundations

Funderingstechnieken Verstraeten BV - Fundex for short - has been known for years for its vibration-free foundation solutions for high-rise buildings, bridges, railroads and water-bound infrastructure. The latest generation of drilling rigs now also shows that this performance can perfectly go hand in hand with the sustainable ambitions of Fundex.

With the introduction of electric foundation machines and the active collection and reuse of grout spoil, Fundex is fully committed to reducing the environmental impact, without compromising on quality or practicability.

Electrification on the construction site

Davy Maes, director of Fundex: "The electrification of the machinery took shape in close cooperation with Fundex Equipment. The result: two advanced foundation machines that operate completely electrically. The F4800E, a heavy-duty drilling rig with three battery packs the size of shipping containers, are used for projects where zero emission work is a requirement."

"For more compact construction sites, we have the CD20E, an agile machine that can realize deep foundation piles even in tight locations. In Sweden, this powerful machine already proved its worth on a difficult-to-reach construction site, namely in the construction of a tunnel."

Reuse grout spoil

A striking example of the sustainable course of Fundex can be found at the Victoria Tower in Eindhoven, a residential tower of 92 meters high opposite the Philips Stadium. Commissioned by Stam + De Koning Construction (VolkerWessels) Fundex performed the foundation work for 370 rental apartments and 6 commercial spaces.

At this site, grout spoil was recovered on site for the first time. During drilling with grout injection - a technique that reduces friction and limits wear - usually creates residual material that is disposed of as waste. Fundex turned that principle around. With a mobile separation unit from Methorst, the residual product was collected on site and reused.

The result: 100% reuse, 100 truck trips saved, and a significant reduction in cement consumption, nitrogen emissions and CO2 emissions. An approach that is not only ecological, but also economically robust.

The future: foundation without a footprint?

According to Davy Maes, the foundation sector is undergoing a quiet revolution: "Electric drills, real-time monitoring, reuse of materials on site ... These are no longer visions of the future, we are already doing it today. And as far as we're concerned, that's just the beginning."

Thanks to continuous innovation, Funderingstechnieken Verstraeten BV can now apply its expertise even more specifically to projects where sustainability and urbanization intersect. Always with the same ambition: a robust foundation of top quality, with the least possible impact on people, environment and climate.
