Repairing hard-to-reach quay walls in busy city centers with concrete, or applying concrete to lot paths at farms, requires specific equipment, special skills and creative custom solutions.
RVR Betonpompverhuur in Linschoten specializes in this type of work, making it unique in the Netherlands. "When the larger contractors cannot reach it with a crane and a large pump, we come into the picture," says founder/co-owner René van Rijs. "For example, with artworks or plot paths right through meadows. For these narrow concrete roads, the mixer goes into the meadow on a tractor. All specialized and difficult work."
The VCA-certified company rents all types of equipment for this purpose, 25 small (trailer) concrete pumps of 15, 18, 50 m³ p/h and two large concrete pumps with a capacity of 160 m³ p/h. The company also has four mixers for 1 to 13 m³. Approximately sixty professionals are at work every day for the rental company as machine operators or to perform concrete work such as pouring and screeding. Not only contractors, but also private individuals call on the concrete pump rental company.
Working on location.
Van Rijs: "We are also always innovating. For example, we have developed a caterpillar mast to which you can connect any pump. The mast is 20 m and you can attach as much hose to it as the pump allows. With a small concrete pump this is about 160 m. An interesting machine for civil engineering, especially if you can't reach something with a large concrete pump. The mast is unfolded, suspended above the work and via hoses the concrete is applied."
The company has equipment for everything and if not, creative custom solutions are devised. For example, in Amsterdam city center where quay walls are being renewed. The municipality demands that everything be done by water. So the company has placed a complete concrete plant on a boat and small concrete pumps are used.
"Elsewhere in Amsterdam, concrete had to be poured for the quay walls of a small lock. It was impossible to use a boat or trucks for this. We then placed fifteen pink air mattresses in a row on the water with 100 m of concrete hose on them. The concrete pump stood a little further down the quay. A special customized solution that worked just fine!", laughs Van Rijs.
