Since its founding in 1902, Manitowoc has developed into a true specialist in the world of cranes. One of the brands the company carries is Grove, a household name in the field of mobile cranes. As sales manager in Central and Northern Netherlands, Erik Baas is responsible for this crane variant. He tells more about the flexibly deployable mobile lifting solutions. Powerhouses that mainly distinguish themselves by their multifunctional deployment within various sectors.
In the crane field, Manitowoc occupies a leading position. The company owes this status not only to the diversity of its equipment. When it comes to product development, financing options and after sales, the company can also rightly call itself a world player. Within the global setting, Manitowoc's extensive range of cranes can be found in many places. For example, in commercial construction and around infrastructure projects. But also within residential construction, industrial construction and petrochemicals. And what is also nice: the crane solutions offered are increasingly linked via telematics to smart software applications such as Grove Connect and Potain Connect. A welcome extra from which Manitowoc's diverse group of customers benefits time and again.
The Dutch branch of Manitowoc is located in modern premises at Veilingkade 15 in Breda. Besides the sales department, there is also an extensive parts department and a workshop for the maintenance of mobile cranes. The specialized sales team, consisting of Erik Baas and Niek Brabers, is daily active in the Netherlands with the sale of Grove's advanced mobile cranes. Wide-ranging solutions used particularly for the vertical transport of heavy loads in the infra, construction and industry segments. "Grove's program can be divided into AT, the all terrain lifting cranes, and RT, the rough terrain lifting cranes with lifting capacities from 40 to 450 tons," he said. "A key feature of the AT is that the operator can simply drive his crane on public roads to the job. Once the job is done, he continues driving the crane to the next location. This makes the AT the ideal crane for short-term lifting projects. Even when several jobs have to be completed in different locations in one day."
Unlike the AT, Grove's RT cranes do not drive on public roads, but are transported to the desired location using a flatbed trailer. The RT crane is the perfect solution for more long-term projects. Furthermore, the type is suitable for use on all types of terrain. Even the less passable ones. "An important advantage of the RT crane is that the operator can drive the crane while it has a heavy load in the lifting hook," says Baas, who notes that the value of RT cranes is sometimes underestimated in practice. Completely unjustified, he believes. "Especially for lifting jobs that take a little more time, this is a perfect solution. On top of that, the investment and operating costs are lower than those of AT lifting cranes."
Baas' account proves it once again: Grove's mobile cranes offer a suitable and high-quality solution for every user and for every project. Manitowoc and Grove guarantee this. Moreover, the customer is always assured of an excellent residual value, when the crane is "finished" in the Netherlands. "Our customers can always count on customization and far-reaching service," Baas adds. "For example, Grove's technical people are on the road every day to provide optimal support to the end user. Because crane downtime is not an option!"
