Belgian LED lighting specialist LEDtechnic has fully focused on and specializes in offering linear waterproof and impact-resistant LED lighting. The company supplies and installs complete lighting systems, including all components such as power supply, cabling, controls and LED modules. Most of the customized solutions find their destination in outdoor applications around the world, mostly in the public domain.
Founder and owner Piet Devriese lists several places in Europe where solutions from LEDtechnic have been applied to bring light into the darkness in a highly efficient and visually appealing way. "Most recently in Knokke and Aalst here in Belgium, via Putten, Leiden and Utrecht in the Netherlands to London, Leicester, Milan and even in the US."
As a reason for this international expansion, Devriese cites, "The most modern and efficient production unit, as well as our technical organization for development, customization, project supervision and possibly installation. With our flexibility, we are at the disposal of architects, planners and executors around the world and offer the right solution for every project."
One such solution is a very special one, one that will be increasingly followed, especially in these times of nature-inclusive construction. Devriese: "From Roads and Traffic, we were asked by the engineering firm Tractebel to design a specific lighting solution for the redesign of the N275 between Hoeilaart and the Brussels Capital Region in Belgium. Over a distance of 1.3 kilometers at this location, the Tervuursesteenweg crosses the Sonian Forest, a special forest that is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The specific assignment was to put together appropriate lighting for the newly constructed two-way bike path with minimal disturbance to bats."
LEDtechnic chose to integrate the lighting into the wooden guardrail between the bike path and the roadway in order to keep the positioning of the lights as low as possible, thus minimizing the disturbance to nocturnal animals, while still keeping the bike path well lit. "Obviously, the guardrail could not be structurally modified," Devriese explains. "So we used a specific fastening system. The LEDs used are specially adapted to nocturnal animals and are amber colored."
LEDtechnic thus realized a safely lit bike path and roadway that minimizes disturbance to wildlife in the special forest area. According to Devriese a unique solution that shows what his company is capable of.
