Ever since the beginning of the project, construction consortium De Groene Boog has relied on Loxam's equipment for the construction of the A16 Rotterdam motorway. A conscious choice? Possibly yes, because Loxam is the most sustainable partner in equipment rental. Hiring equipment is by definition a sustainable choice, but Loxam goes one step further. In terms of service as well, by the way. The equipment rental company recently proved this during the four-day road closure that turned the A16 into a red road.
Sustainability is a hot topic in many projects. So too with the construction of the A16 Rotterdam, where client Rijkswaterstaat, among others, has expressed the ambition to use suppliers from the surrounding area as much as possible. "We are situated with several branches around the project. Distances are short, so machines are quickly on site," says Raymon Rotteveel, project manager at Loxam. "Especially during a major road closure, such as during the long Ascension weekend when a lot of work had to be carried out in a short time, that is an advantage." Much of the A16 colored red that weekend, Loxam's corporate colors. "We supplied a diversity of equipment, ranging from aerial work platforms to generators and light towers, as well as smaller equipment such as compressors and high-pressure cleaners."
On a project of this magnitude, Loxam always works with a "single point of contact. For De Groene Boog, that's Raymon. "He is aware of all the sub-areas, knows what equipment has been delivered and maintains contact with the implementers on site," says Marcel van der Laan, commercial director at Loxam. "That creates calm and clarity. Even in such a stressful Ascension weekend, for which we delivered a lot of equipment pieces that were often also exchanged between each other." This is therefore preceded by thorough preparation. For example, Raymon was involved in the planning at an early stage and provided advice on which equipment could best be used for the specific tasks. "Then it was my job to ensure that all the equipment was delivered by the various Loxam branches at the desired times and locations. Just before the weekend, I made another round with the chief foreman for a final check to eliminate all risks." Should a breakdown occur on one of the pieces of equipment during a project, Raymon says it is still no reason to panic. "We provide 24/7 support with a team of mechanics, so the continuity of a project is not compromised."
At Loxam you are also assured of the most sustainable equipment. "We invest a lot in electric and hybrid equipment and the machines that still run on diesel we always refuel with HVO100 - a strategic decision by the management," according to Marcel. "We are also the first rental company in the world to be ISO 26000 certified, and with 44 branches spread throughout the Netherlands, there is always a branch within 25 kilometers of a project. Other parties do rent out machines, but the service we offer around this is truly unique. Renting as we do is a profession."
