To keep the region accessible in the future, Rijkswaterstaat is widening the A9 between Badhoevedorp and Holendrecht (A9 BaHo project). The road will go from twice three to twice four lanes and will be sunken over a length of 1.6 kilometers. There will be three canopies over the sunken area, a large number of viaducts and underpasses, and fourteen kilometers of noise barriers.
Sweco has been commissioned for the design packages for road infrastructure and the sunken location. This makes Sweco responsible for the integral preliminary and final design of the (main) road network, including all access and exit ramps, water management, and pedestrian and bicycle paths. The tunnel trough for the sunken location, the three decks that go over it, various adjacent viaducts, and the noise barriers are also part of the scope. For all of these, Sweco is designing not only the final situation, but also all the road phases and most of the auxiliary structures needed to realize it.
The combined work has a value of more than 10 million euros. The client for Sweco is the Spanish contracting company FCC Construcción SA, which will realize the A9 BaHo project on behalf of VeenIX for the Department of Public Works.
Marco Mijnders, project director at Sweco: 'It's great to contribute to the livability of Amstelveen and the surrounding area with this project. The technical complexity and necessary collaborations in such a project are a wonderful challenge, which over 40 colleagues are proud to work on. This is truly a project with which we contribute to a healthy and safe city!
Sweco has completed the preliminary design and has now started the final design, making an important contribution to the A9 BaHo project. The total widening of the A9 BaHo, which is being commissioned by the Department of Public Works, should be completed by the end of 2026.
