'First aid' in infra projects

Contractors in the infrastructure sector have always found their way to Bunnik Verhuur en Grondverzet. Sometimes for assistance in earthmoving, but much more often for the rental of all kinds of tools and equipment, such as trench shoring and road plates, but also wheel dumpers and drainage and dirty water pumps. Company manager Perry Bunnik takes us to some of the projects in which the family business adds value and is only too happy to show us the renewed range of wheel dumpers, drainage pumps and small electrical equipment.

We begin our tour in Hellevoetsluis. Here Bunnik Verhuur en Grondverzet is being called in by Van Gelder Group for the reconstruction of the Oostkanaalweg. "We are assisting the contractor on this project with our latest Liebherr 916 wheel excavator, equipped with 3D GPS from Leica," says Perry. "It is one of the most efficient and 'cleanest' machines in our range, and also very complete, which means we can use the machine for all kinds of purposes. That comes in handy here in Hellevoetsluis. We can also attach a vacuum pump to the machine for machine laying paving, tiles and tires."

Preventing stone chips

From Hellevoetsluis it is a short drive to the ports of Rotterdam. Here, too, Bunnik Verhuur en Grondverzet proves its added value. "We are assisting Ballast Nedam in replacing the top layer on the A15 between the Burgemeester Thomassen Tunnel and Oostvoorne. It is a stretch of 9 kilometers in total, where we are deploying three mobile cranes for the asphalting work and a large shovel." The deployment of the shovel is a story of its own and requires an explanation. Perry: "To avoid disruption, most of the work takes place at night. During the day, traffic drives over the milled asphalt. That doesn't happen very often in the Netherlands. The shovel therefore stands behind the cutter and uses the bucket to make the milled asphalt perfectly flat. We added a new blade to the bucket especially for this project so that we can smooth out all the sharp edges of the milled asphalt. After all, during the day there is normal traffic on the milled A15. This extra pass ensures that stone chips are avoided as much as possible."

Hussar by the sea

We continue our route toward Noordwijk aan Zee where Bunnik Verhuur en Grondverzet has done a real feat for JdB Group. "A basement is being built here for a beach tent against the dunes. To stop the fine-grained dune sand, we realized a berliner wall of 45 meters. To this end, we pressed 8-meter steel trusses vertically into the ground and welded steel plates behind them so that the contractor could safely excavate the basement." Bunnik Verhuur en Grondverzet also handled the complete dismantling of the berliner wall. "This way, our client has only one point of contact." It is also an important argument for KWS Infra to partner with Bunnik Verhuur en Grondverzet. "We are working on various projects for KWS Infra, currently coincidentally also by the sea, at the reconstruction of the Zeestraat in Scheveningen to be exact."

Clients find everything under one roof at Bunnik Rental and Earthmoving. "We recently expanded our rental fleet with updated wheel dumpers, all Stage V. Our drainage pumps are also all Stage V. We also have a range of electric well and dirty water pumps, and we have an extensive range of small electrical equipment from vibratory plates up to 6 tons and mini excavators up to 3 tons. All it takes is one phone call and the customer is taken care of. And in case of a breakdown, a mechanic is always nearby. That too is what we mean by 'first aid' in infrastructure projects."
