Guide rails and other vehicle barriers largely determine how safe a highway feels. As a specialist in guide rail and crash protection, Van Straten Geleiderail ensures that the guide rail construction on the A2 section between the Het Vonderen and Kerensheide interchanges remains safe at all times, even during works. At the same time, the company supports the main contractor in designing a future-proof guide rail construction for the new situation.
We have been involved in the project since the beginning to keep the existing guideway route safe for road users until the new freeway on both main carriageways is completed, says Ad van Straten, director of Van Straten Guideway. “Last year, we had the opportunity to experience a major weekend work, where various cables/pipes/sewers were laid under both main carriageways, a few structures were demolished across both main carriageways, and a host of miscellaneous work was carried out across the entire route. We were on the line for the safe delivery of the guide rail construction again. The same challenges are scheduled for this year. Cooperation conquers all. That is the strength of this work. We all go for it together.”
Since this year, Van Straten Geleiderail has also been working on the design of the new guide rail construction. “Together with Boskalis, we look at where which types of guide rail should be applied in accordance with the current guidelines. In this way, we eliminate all imperfections in advance so that we can put an efficient guide rail design on the table at an early stage, fitting within the contract. In addition, we maximize our efforts on reuse, removing, renovating and galvanizing existing guide rail constructions so that they once again meet the desired life span in accordance with the contract (CE approved). It is a relatively new development within the guide rail industry, but one with perspective and maximum sustainability.”

Since its founding in 2005, Van Straten Conductor Rail has developed into a leading specialist in the field of vehicle barriers. “With a team of twenty professionals, we have over 300 years of combined experience. This extensive expertise translates into in-depth knowledge of vehicle restraint systems, associated regulations, design and implementation criteria. From this capacity, we contribute to both large-scale integral maintenance contracts and DC(BFM) contracts as well as small-scale private projects and RAW specifications. We are certified according to ISO 9001:2015, VCA 2017/6.0 and BRL-9161 for the supply and installation of guide rail and collision protection.”
Van Straten Guide Rail's product range includes guide rail constructions, guardrail constructions, collision protection, guardrail, guard posts, protective brackets, pipe constructions and anti-parking solutions. “We also carry a wide range of street furniture, including drop-off poles, sidewalk poles, benches, trash receptacles and bicycle railing,” Van Straten concluded.
