Waterproof protection of Amsterdam parking garage

Parking in and making inner-city areas car-free requires creative solutions in many cases. The Singelgrachtgarage-Marnix project in Amsterdam proves this once again. The roof of this underground parking garage was recently fitted by Rowij Bouwchemie BV from Oosterhout with both Elastofalt® EP and a sprayed membrane based on Elastofalt® Spraykote 90. While the first Latexfalt product serves to seal the structure's pouring seams, the second variant ensures that the roof structure of the parking facility is guaranteed watertight.

Based in Koudekerk aan den Rijn, Latexfalt BV has focused for more than 70 years on the production of bitumen and polymer emulsions for floors, roads, roofs and industrial applications. The Elastofalt® product group was specially developed by the company to protect and waterproof concrete roofs, foundations, concrete decks and basements, among other things. "Characteristic of this application is that there is often a long-term or permanent water load," says Willem Barendse, commercial flooring manager within Latexfalt. "In addition to their excellent waterproofing properties, our Elastofalt® products are also distinguished by their very high elasticity."

Elastofalt® EP and the aforementioned Elastofalt® Spraykote 90 are two of the three product variants within the Elastofalt® program. The manually processed Elastofalt® EP is a modified bitumen emulsion in pasty form that is particularly suitable for sealing, for example, landfill seams, foundations and basement walls. Elastofalt® Spraykote 90, on the other hand, is a modified bitumen emulsion that is applied by spraying. A coagulant is injected at the same time. This two-component system lends itself particularly well to larger surfaces requiring permanent waterproofing. Both products were successfully used in the heart of Amsterdam. "The finish ensures that water from the Singelgracht cannot find its way into the parking garage and the technical installations installed under the roof," said Willem. "Together with Rowij, we therefore delivered a strong piece of custom and professional work."
