The artist won a competition set by the City of Amsterdam. Vroom and Schokindustrie are supplying the entire foundation for this work of art. With this 'ode to the pile', a 20 meter high house on piles, Piet van Wijk visualizes how Amsterdam is built on millions of piles. Without this foundation, the city would sink into the swampy peat.
The artwork will stand in the Sluis neighborhood on Zeeburgereiland, near the entrance to the Piet Hein tunnel. A striking object that will also function as a meeting place for the residents of this new sustainable neighborhood in Amsterdam.
Vroom Funderingstechnieken from Oosthuizen began in 1962 with the small-scale driving of wooden piles and in nearly 60 years has grown into an all-rounder in foundation solutions. Our product is made in the ground or disappears into it: an invisible end result once our job is done, but a rewarding and indispensable part of everything in the Netherlands that is built below and above ground.
Vroom Betonbouw is a specialist in precast foundation structures and pile systems. The advantages of precast concrete work is that construction time on the building site is significantly reduced. In addition, less deployment of production personnel is required: two men and a mobile crane with operator is sufficient for the execution. The combination of precast concrete work and a pile system by Vroom Funderingstechnieken provides additional advantages.
Vroom is now a knowledge company. Its knowledge and experience is recognized by clients, which means that Vroom is involved at an early stage and is allowed to think along to make a plan both economically and executionally feasible. We consider early presence at the front to be an important matter. Ultimately, the importance of good execution is the icing on the cake. We think it is important that we stand for what we stand for, that an agreement is also an agreement and that we keep it. For us, that goes without saying.
Schokindustrie is an innovative concrete manufacturer based in Zwijndrecht. Since 1934, Schokindustrie has been designing, producing and selling quality precast concrete products including precast foundation beams, storage floors and piles. Together with more than 40 sister companies, Schokindustrie forms the De Hoop Terneuzen concern which has been anchored in the construction industry for more than 100 years.
Schokindustrie's work process is fully aligned with the client's plans. In doing so, we strive for an efficient lead time, time savings, less waste and lower failure costs. This results in a total approach: from objective advice and design to delivery, execution and assembly.
There is close cooperation between Schokindustrie and Vroom Betonbouw for the assembly of the products. This takes all worries surrounding the realization of a good foundation out of your hands. This creates a complete foundation from one hand! Vroom supplies the piling and assembly of the foundation slab on the piles. The foundation slab and the piles are supplied by Schokindustrie. In the foundation slab will be 28 anchors for the attachment of the steel tubes, supplied by Tata Steel, which visualize the piles. On top comes the steel house
Piet van Wijk: "My Palenhuis, is an ode to the archetypal Dutch pile. To my delight, most Amsterdammers voted for my design and the house will be built, 20 meters high. Partly thanks to the enthusiastic support of Vroom Funderingstechnieken, Vroom Betonbouw and Schokindustrie. It is fantastic that through this work of art we can see what Amsterdam houses actually look like. I am overjoyed with this collaboration."
