No lighting unless safety is compromised

The starting point was to use no lighting unless safety was an issue. This resulted in a lighting design with a total of 180 light points equipped with special louvers and automatic dimming control. 

"We work a lot with Boskalis and during the tender phase we made a proposal of how we thought the lighting on the N69 should be implemented," says Wiljan Noordhoek, project manager at Dynniq. "The assignment was twofold: the one-to-one replacement of the existing lighting on the southern route and a lighting design for the new, northern route. And all in accordance with the requirements and principles of the province of North Brabant: only place lighting in crucial locations where it benefits safety. Based on the new road design, we determined those points."

The masts and fixtures were specially selected. "The goal is to cause as little light nuisance as possible for both road users and the environment," says lead engineer lighting Nico Bos. "The light level must therefore be distributed as evenly as possible, but meet a certain minimum. In addition, the desire is to be able to dim the lighting at night and keep the energy demand as low as possible, since it is generated by solar panels on the structures. With all these facets in mind and an eye on easy management and maintenance, we manage to realize the project with only three different fixture types. By using special louvers, the light is prevented from beaming into the forest."

From sketch design to assembly and from commissioning to handover, Dynniq is taking care of the complete lighting issue here on the N69 for Boskalis.
