With more than forty years of experience in earthmoving, Beukema Grondwerken is an established name in the north of the country. Under the motto 'kin nait, bestoat nait', the family business under the leadership of founder Roelf Beukema does not shy away from any challenge. The company from Onderdendam has been working with Doosan excavators for many years and two new machines have recently been delivered. An interview with son Niek Beukema about the conscious choice for Doosan.
In 1979, with a small tractor and a hay loader, Roelf laid the foundation for what has now grown into a beautiful medium-sized family business specializing in earthmoving and dredging work. Beukema Grondwerken has at its disposal a range of excavators, trucks, tractors, bucket trucks, dumpers and (customer-specific) attachments. "We have been around for 42 years now and are rightfully an all-round GWW company with a lot of expertise and loyal employees. We are awarded many projects from the contracting, provincial and municipal governments," says Niek with appropriate pride.
For many years Beukema has relied on Doosan machines. "It was around the turn of the century that we first became acquainted with Doosan," Niek looks back. "At the time, we were working with machines from a competing brand, but in our eyes they could no longer keep up. Especially in the field of crawlers. Reason enough to broaden our horizons and try something new. We were soon convinced of Doosan quality and purchased the first Doosan crawler excavator in 2000. In all honesty, I have to say that it was also the service equipment behind it from Doosan Nederland that was the deciding factor. We had and have a good feeling about it. If something goes wrong or a machine unexpectedly breaks down, we are not alone and we can count on back-up from Doosan Nederland. By the way, the machines are functioning excellently. Our machine operators are therefore very satisfied with them."
Beukema Grondwerken has invested heavily in modernizing its machinery fleet, particularly in recent years. Niek: "In 2018, we bought three new Doosans in the form of a DX255LC-5, a DX225LC-5 and a DX19. We recently added a DX160W-5 mobile excavator and a DX225LC-5 crawler with 11-meter-long boom (!). The machines are completely built to our specifications and, of course, all in our company colors. Before purchasing the mobile excavators, we did try out a competitor brand, mainly for the sake of 'comparison shopping' and to keep everyone on their toes," Niek acknowledges. "Incidentally, our machine operators were closely involved in this. After all, we do it together. However, the preference was still for Doosan because of its comfort and ease of operation."
In total, Beukema Grondwerken has a dozen Doosan machines, from small to large and in a variety of specific designs. "We have virtually no standard machines in our possession. Everything that comes in new is often customized in order to approach work just a little differently. I think that's where our strength lies." And that is also why Beukema Grondwerken is a reliable partner for many clients in the province of Groningen and increasingly beyond. Father Roelf and mother Janny are still active in the family business every day. The intention is that Niek will eventually take over the company from his parents according to the same motto 'kin nait, bestoat nait'. Doosan plays a crucial role in this.
