Increasing focus on 'green' noise control

Increasing focus on 'green' noise control

Especially in places where industrial sites border existing (residential) construction, there is increasing attention to green noise control. Noise pollution should be kept to a minimum, but a noise barrier should preferably be as inconspicuous as possible. The Kokowall® noise barriers from Kokosystems provide significant sound insulation as well as a warm appearance that blends into any landscape.

Vegetated sound barrier

"Business parks often have to deal with local residents," knows Arjan Kick, project manager at Kokosystems BV. He notes that his noise screens have a high acceptance value among local residents because of their natural and sustainable nature. "The screens consist of tubes wrapped with sustainable coconut fiber. This makes them the ideal attachment for various types of climbing plants. Within a few years, the Kokowall® noise barriers completely overgrown." Kick explains that -for maintenance reasons- the side adjacent to the business park itself usually does not include planting. "We often apply the Kokowall® HA-Minwol variant where one side is finished with durable coir fibers and the other side is finished with a layer of mineral wool finished with a plastic and a galvanized steel mesh net."

Noise Control

Kick notices that noise control is increasingly taken into account in zoning changes and noise barriers are more often included in specifications. "In a built environment, green application is important and our products are ideally suited," he said. The Kokowall® HA-Minwol sound barrier has high sound insulation and sound absorption, making it ideally suited for installation along a business park or at other locations with higher sound absorption requirements.

'Hearty Dutch'

The Kokowall® system is a Dutch invention produced entirely in the Netherlands. "We are proud to have been able to install a noise barrier at the Floriade grounds in Almere this spring. Truly a unique project in which the international event, the World Horticultural Expo Floriade, is ultimately part of the total area development. In fact, Dura Vermeer will continue to develop it for housing afterwards. It is logical that a natural sound barrier has been realized. It's fantastic that we were allowed to do that!" On the embankment along the A6, Kokosystems realized a screen there of no less than 690 meters long and 3 meters high, with Kokowall on both sides® finish and provided additional absorption on the sound side. "Within twelve weeks of issuing the order, we delivered the screen fully planted. Thanks to the wet Dutch summer, the planting started growing vigorously and it now looks beautiful!
