Future-oriented with a sustainable character
The Prince Claus Bridge in Dordrecht was an innovative and complex assignment: a throwback to ASK Romein.

Future-oriented with a sustainable character

Despite the aftermath of Covid-19, geopolitical unrest, ever-rising raw material and energy prices and some postponed investments, steel and industrial builder ASK Romein is not sitting still. Fine references were built in both the Netherlands and Belgium, and the phased investment plan for the new location in Flushing was also vigorously pursued.

ASK Romein realizes construction and steel building projects for its customers from initial design to turnkey delivery. With its own project teams for sales, engineering, production and execution, the company combines craftsmanship with maximum attention to quality and creativity. The presence of its own steel production and advanced machinery provides a significant advantage for the customer, in particular a delivery guarantee within agreed time and that at the most advantageous price.

Clients can go to five locations in the Netherlands and Belgium for total solutions of all conceivable steel constructions. With a steel capacity of 60,000 tons per year, ASK Romein is one of the largest players in its field in the Benelux.

Offshore and maritime sector

ASK Romein produces and delivers complex steel structures for the infra and offshore sector from its site in Vlissingen. Thanks to the purchase of shipyard de Donge in 2021, the company has all the necessary facilities at its disposal: deep-water yards with generous loading and unloading quays, large storage and production facilities, and employees with specific offshore-related training. In November last year, all colleagues moved from Vlissingen and Middelburg to the new shipyard and since then they have already completed some beautiful and impressive projects. A fine example of this is the Roggebot Bridge, a new - partly moveable - bridge with large headroom over the Vossemeer/Drontermeer on the border between the provinces of Flevoland and Overijssel.

Since purchasing the new shipyard, the company has been able to assemble very large modules without any problems.

Thanks to the new site area of 31,540 square meters and a built-up floor area of almost 20,000 square meters, including a hall 170 meters long, 40 meters wide and 40 meters high, ASK Romein is now able to assemble very bulky modules without problems. In turn, access to open water provides the advantage of transporting the gigantic pieces without the hindrance of locks or bridges.

Thanks to years of experience - dating back to 1888 - in bridge, road and hydraulic engineering, ASK Romein has acquired a leading position within this field. Bridge building is a market segment in which they see many opportunities, as an ideal complement to the activities in construction and steel building, which the company naturally also continues to optimize.

ASK Romein Bouw (NL) recently converted an empty hall in Nieuwegein into an urban last-mile logistics hub for Client URBZ Capital Management.

Contributing to a sustainable future

ASK Romein has a sustainable mission: the company wants to create added value by helping to build tomorrow's environment responsibly. Every day, they strive to contribute to a sustainable future by consciously choosing projects that create jobs, by meeting the mobility needs of tomorrow, stimulating broader economic progress, upgrading neighborhoods and thus contributing to the sustainable living environment of the future. The company is investing heavily in energy-saving materials and circular construction methods that help reduce its carbon footprint. So they are clearly concerned with more than just steel and concrete.

This sustainable mission is something the company also wants to live up to within its projects. For example, they recently converted a vacant hall in Nieuwegein into an urban last-mile logistics hub for client URBZ Capital Management. This proves that in addition to new construction, the company also specializes in renovation and making unused and vacant distribution centers sustainable and future-proof again. Realizations of many new distribution centers will eventually lead to land scarcity in strategic locations for the logistics sector. Here and there you see users moving to larger, more current distribution centers when the leases expire. There the company sees opportunities to renovate those vacant buildings and make them more sustainable according to the wishes and requirements of our time.

New grandstand for iconic race track

Another eye-catcher in ASK Romein's portfolio are the steel canopies of the new grandstand at the iconic Spa Francorchamps race track. The grandstand provides seating for 4,600 spectators and a great view of the steep Raidillon bend, allowing the public to once again enjoy roaring engines and screeching tires to the fullest. The fact that it stands in an iconic location in the racing world adds to the appeal of this prestigious project.
