The Hilversum section of HOV in 't Gooi runs right through a beautiful nature reserve. Via fauna grids from HBA Totaal B.V., wildlife is guided to the wildlife bridge (fauna passage) in order to be able to pass the bus lane undisturbed and switch habitats. This also ensures safety for people and animals. An interview with Elwin Luggenhorst, director/owner of HBA Totaal B.V., about the specially compiled for this project
fauna grid over a total length of just under 2 kilometers.
HBA Totaal has broad expertise and operates nationwide from Holten, installing fauna grids along provincial and national roads. "With our price, quality and additional expertise, we came out as the most convincing party to do the work for BAM Infra Nederland," says Luggenhorst. "Each wildlife grid is in fact customized work. This is a combined wildlife fence for both the protection/ guidance of small game (hares, rabbits and small mammals) and red game (red deer and roe deer). An additional provision has also been made for the repelling of mustelids in the form of a 70-centimeter high HDPE screen."
The combined fauna grid has a total height of 2.20 meters. Luggenhorst: "The first meter consists of fine mesh, while the upper part is made of coarse mesh. The HDPE screen is attached to the mesh at a height of 1 meter. To make the wildlife fence blend into the landscape as well as possible, we used natural-looking posts made of sustainable chestnut wood. And so, in cooperation with our clients, we create the most optimal screening for each situation, whether or not equipped with additional wildlife grids, small fauna passages or return facilities."
