Emission-free redevelopment Nunspeet station area

The station area of Nunspeet will be completely renewed in the coming years. Since January 2023, BAM Infra Nederland has been working on the implementation outside, which will take a total of four years and will be completely emission-free. Subcontractor Van Werven Infra invested especially for this project in two electric machines that are permanently stationed in Nunspeet. The versatile service provider in the infra has recognized the energy transition at an early stage and now has a wide range of equipment to work emission-free, even at locations where no power is available.

In Nunspeet, the level railroad crossing in Elspeterweg will be removed and replaced by two underpasses, one for motorized traffic and one for slow traffic that will include access to the platform. "What is special about this project is that it is being carried out completely emission-free," says Tiemo Buist, commercial manager of infrastructure at Van Werven. "With our conventional machines and skilled operation, we have been a regular supplier to BAM Infra for many years. With their commitment to a long-term cooperation, investing in two electric machines was an acceptable risk."

Ambassador

Van Werven operates in Nunspeet with a Doosan 165 Electric and a Mecalac e12, both in BAM's house style. "The mobile crane is mostly used for earthwork and sewerage work, while with the electric Mecalac we mainly assist the pavers, such as pushing in the various construction layers, the semi-paving and the additional driving of stones and tires," explains Tiemo. According to him, especially in the early days, it was quite a bit of pioneering. "For us it was the first electric machines in our fleet and for BAM it was also one of the first emission-free projects. Moreover, the construction connection that had been promised did not come until many months later. That's why we used extra battery boxes at the beginning to be able to run a full day with the machines. Together with BAM and, in particular, contractor Harry Wijnbergen, we solved the teething problems associated with such a first emission-free project. Harry has now become a true ambassador for the use of electric equipment. And we at Van Werven Infra are very happy with that. Together we have literally and figuratively continued to put energy into making it a success."

Taking on a zero-emission project is one thing; to make it really run, the entire organization must go through a transition, Tiemo believes. "It's working completely differently." That's why Van Werven Infra has appointed an emissions-free work coordinator who is at home in electrical engineering and acts as a question and expert, both internally and externally. "BAM may have been one of the first parties to enter into a sustainable partnership with us, but since then we have grown steadily in that area with other parties as well. We provide the complete picture to fly a project emission-free, from now sixteen emission-free machines including controls to a range of battery boxes and electric transport equipment."
