Electrical renovation Groote Zeesluis Muiden (GZM)

Electrical renovation Groote Zeesluis Muiden (GZM).

EPC was commissioned by Waternet to start the electrical renovation of the lock in November 2018 to bring it up to the desired reliability, availability and required safety level. The object also had to be made suitable for remote operation from the Central Object Control (COB) and linkage to Waternet's Central Automation System Water Control (CAW).

We took care of the hardware and software engineering for both lock gates (East and Middle lock), the swing bridge and the lock gate (West lock). After the entire design was completed, we started realizing the control boxes in our workshop.

In the spring of 2019, we started the conversion on site where we first converted one lock so that the other lock could still be used and after it was delivered fully working and to the satisfaction of the client, we started on the other lock.

In the technical room under the lockkeeper's house, the old control system was removed and the completely new control system was installed by EPC. Thus, a separate control was realized for the movable bridge (hydraulic swing bridge) incl. land traffic signals and new barriers, a separate control for both sluice gates (hydraulic doors incl. electromechanical rinket slides) incl. shipping signals and a separate control for the sluice gate incl. sluice signals.

Several new operating desks were also realized at the lock for local operation. A new console for operating the swing bridge and for both lock heads of the locks on the Vecht side including a new public address system and various CCTV camera images. A lectern for the sluice for operation of the toll valves and point doors (primary barrier doors). An emergency control was also realized to operate the swing bridge, lock gates and sluice gate outside the PLC.

In all the work carried out, the status of a national monument was respected and we look back on a very nice cooperation between EPC (contractor), Royal HaskoningDHV (executive director) and Waternet (client).

After the delivery of the new control system, the next contractor started replacing the drives. Here, too, we assisted in disconnecting and reconnecting and commissioning the new drives after installation.
