Specifically for project VDR, the supplier not only supplied many miles of standard products, but also put together a number of custom products. A conversation with Mike Letschert about the added value of Beuker Kunststoffen.
"We have a tremendously wide range of plastic pipe systems, manholes and accessories for application in sewer, infiltration, pressure pipe and drainage systems," begins Letschert. "In this project, we were approached by Heijmans for several sub-assignments. We then proposed the right solutions in PP and HDPE. It mainly concerned PP piping systems (4-5 kilometers) in various diameters for the benefit of the sewer system and over 6 kilometers of HDPE casing pipes around 63 mm SDR 11, including 535 fittings by means of electrofusion sockets. We were also responsible for the supply of various manholes. All products were delivered to site in phases between April 2020 and May 2021."
Beuker Kunststoffen has not only been a specialist trading company since 1978, but over the years it has also developed strongly as a specialist in customized solutions. Letschert: "For example, we were the first company in the Netherlands to produce customized inspection manholes in PE, and that is where we still make a difference. In addition to supplying 26 units of 315 mm PP drainage manholes fitted with spigot arms, we also produced and supplied 41 units of 600 mm PE convex bottom manholes for project VDR. These manholes are equipped with various connections for PP. Pipes and fittings, incidentally, we purchase from various producers within the vermeulen Group, of which we are also a part." Here, the fact that Beuker Kunststoffen is strong in customization led to the production of special cross pieces in PP. "Heijmans was looking for a particular solution that did not yet exist. Normally they use T-pieces with three branches, we made cross pieces with four branches, also with two different types of pipe connections: a PP 315 pipe and a drainage round 100 pipe. This way, they had to install far fewer fittings on the job."
Our strength lies mainly in thinking along in solutions, summarizes Letschert. "Thanks to our knowledge and experience in the market. We can respond quickly and flexibly to issues. We proved that again at VDR and it forms the basis for a long-term cooperation with Heijmans at Schiphol. Although in this case the compliments also go to Heijmans. Every order was submitted well in time, so that we had sufficient time to arrange everything neatly."
