CSC gold for De Lek Beton

A sustainable concrete supply chain starts with engaged people

Kiwa awarded CSC gold to De Lek Beton (Betonmortelcentrale De Lek bv) on March 13, 2020 The Concrete Sustainability Council (CSC) certificate provides producers with proof that concrete products, concrete mortar and raw materials for concrete are produced in a sustainable and responsible manner.

The CSC seal of approval has been firmly established for more than two years. In the Netherlands, 150 certificates have been awarded. Director Arie Pols, together with Heidi Hollander, is responsible for the sustainable policy within De Lek Beton. Why they wanted a CSC certificate for De Lek Beton? "The certificate not only makes it clear that we are actively working to produce concrete as sustainably as possible. It also makes clear that good employment practices, occupational safety, integrity and customer focus play an important role in our way of doing business. In addition, informing and being accountable to our society and stakeholders is a key focus. During Kiwa's audit, it was found that De Lek Beton scored highly on several aspects, particularly Operations, Health & Safety and Environment. The company meets all requirements in the field of quality and environmental management & management of health and safety. There is also a demonstrable focus on reducing environmental impact and recycling.

According to Pols, the company meets all product standards and concrete mortar and the other cementitious species are delivered with quality certificates. "Starting today, we are supplying a CSC certificate with that."

CSC certification

The certificate offers the buyer of concrete assurance about a sustainable, responsible origin of the raw materials used, an optimal production process and recyclability. For the producer, it is an incentive to continue to innovate and actively engage in product development. Because of the international recognition, the CSC certificate gives an advantage when doing business on the (inter)national market. There are four CSC levels: bronze, silver, gold and platinum. In the Netherlands, Betonhuis Betonmortel is the regional system administrator of the international CSC scheme. The actual certification is carried out exclusively by CSC member and independent certifying bodies; Kiwa is one of them.
