At Bosch Beton, the Barneveld-based retaining wall manufacturer, sustainability and transparency are central to all processes. Having previously introduced CO2 labels for all its concrete products to make the environmental impact visible, the company is once again breaking new ground within its sustainability mission. It is doing so in the form of the CO2 customer card, a powerful and in-house developed analysis tool that makes it possible to assess in one clear overview the sustainability of construction projects and improve them where necessary.
By introducing the CO2 customer card, Bosch Beton is putting concrete data in their hands and making an additional contribution to a more sustainable construction industry. "The CO2 customer card provides our customers with detailed and validated data on the CO2 emissions of the products they have purchased from us over the past year," says co-CEO Brechtje van den Beuken. Specifically, the carefully compiled map provides insight into both direct and indirect emissions (according to Scope 3 of the CSRD) associated with customer-specific projects. "Each delivery is analyzed based on the products used and the logistical distances traveled," says Van den Beuken. "In the process, the emissions are calculated and reported very accurately. The calculation data is validated externally so that we can offer assurance that the calculations are correct."
The calculation of individual CO2 emissions takes into account the specific concrete mix, rebar and transport distance to the construction site. "The data are presented in a clear annual report with detailed order information," explains Van den Beuken. "This provides a clear picture of the environmental impact for each product purchased from us. In addition to this annual overview, the reduction potential is also shown on the customer card. So you can see at a glance where improvements are possible. For example, by choosing a more sustainable concrete mix, using HVO fuel or using electric transport."
Bosch Beton's customer card supports compliance with increasing sustainability requirements. The strength of this innovative tool lies mainly in the possibility to assess and, where necessary, improve the sustainability of construction projects in one central overview. Van den Beuken: "The map offers our clients the tools to make well-founded choices during the realization of projects in the direction of reduced CO2 emissions, and thus to procure more sustainably. At the same time, it provides a valuable tool for complying with the CSRD reporting obligation. So the knife cuts both ways."
Bosch Beton attaches great importance to the privacy of its customers. Hence, the CO2 customer card can only be requested in writing and contains only data about its own projects. "We guarantee that we treat our customers' information securely and confidentially," Van den Beuken emphasizes. "After written approval by the customer, the card is carefully printed out, formally signed and sent. Again, we observe the highest standards of data protection."
