The N381, an important road for traffic towards southeast Friesland, has been widened over a length of eight kilometers between Donkerbroek and Oosterwolde. The Province of Fryslân commissioned Heijmans to realize this, as well as to adapt the five engineering structures on this stretch to the new situation. One of these structures is the Lochtenrek bridge, which crosses the Tsjonger River and also has a bicycle path running underneath. Zwaagstra Beton supplied the field boulder slabs for the embankment.
André Veerkamp (Zwaagstra Beton) talks about the origin of the concrete field boulder slab: "Several years ago, someone wanted to have a ford made, in this case for a ford in a stream for horses. The field boulder slabs would act as a ford. The plan was all thought out, we had even made a sample but the plan didn't get off the ground. And then Heijmans called..."
"Heijmans approached us for the embankment of Lochtenrek bridge on the N381. The field boulder slab could be an excellent solution and also visually fit nicely with the existing field boulders above it. After the client and Heijmans were enthusiastic about our proposal, we produced the field boulder plates." The field boulder slab -size 100 x 200 x 18 cm- is equipped with 4 lifting screw sleeves for efficient placement. The slabs fit nicely with the field boulders already installed by Heijmans. The water only had to be dammed for a short time which provided a great time advantage."
Zwaagstra Beton also carries KOMO certification on all their concrete slabs since this year. This was already so on their retaining walls and concealed gutters. Veerkamp: "And without any price consequences. We are a reliable partner who delivers quality in standard work but also does not shy away from special solutions. A good party for the civil engineering sector," concludes Veerkamp.
