Friso Civil

Friso Civiel (formerly J.J. de Vries) is a multidisciplinary contractor specializing in concrete work. Every day our professionals build the foundation for a liveable and water-safe Netherlands. In doing so, Friso Civiel makes a large contribution to the construction of concrete and hydraulic engineering structures mainly in the Northern Netherlands. As extensive as our assignments are, so diverse are our clients. We build both for the public sector; municipalities, water boards, provinces, energy market and companies.

Friso Civiel is part of Friso Bouwgroep. We therefore control all facets of construction. Residential construction, development, utility construction, maintenance and renovation, (monument) restoration, supply of mechanical carpentry, precast concrete and HSB elements and of course civil concrete and hydraulic engineering. This variety of disciplines allows us to complement and reinforce each other for any type of work.

From design to realization
Friso Civiel thinks along from the design to the realization of your project. We don't do this alone, but together with the client, the consultancy and/or engineering firm, subcontractors and suppliers. We go the extra mile to create a plan that is not only better, but also more sustainable and safer. In this way we join forces for an optimal end result. This makes us an ideal partner for clients in construction teams.

Building the future sustainably
The Netherlands faces major challenges, such as energy transition, water safety and water quality and quantity. As an involved builder, Friso Civiel is making an active contribution to these challenges. We realize multidisciplinary projects in both traditional contract forms and in construction team or Design & Construct collaborations. Our focus is on four pillars:

- Water control (locks and pumping stations)
- Water quality (sewage and drinking water)
- Bridges and wharves
- Energy transition

Water Control
Due to the low position of the Netherlands, strong dikes, flood defenses and well-functioning pumping stations are essential. Friso Civiel has over 90 years of experience in building pumping stations and locks. For example, we recently renovated seven monumental locks in North Holland, from exploration to completion.

Water Quality
Increasing consumption, low groundwater levels and pollution make expansion of drinking water supplies necessary. We build and renovate drinking water treatment plants, pumping stations and water cellars for various clients. We are also specialists in sewage and wastewater treatment: we have already completed more than 30 treatment plants for water boards.

Bridges and wharves
Many bridges were built more than 50 years ago and are at the end of their useful life. Or they no longer meet the clearance width and traffic handling requirements. Friso Civiel has built several bridges for various municipalities and provinces over the past 20 years. We relieve the client when it comes to environment, quality and safety. We also have extensive experience in repairing and/or renovating old bridges and quays. This often in combination with our restoration specialists.

Energy Transition
We build substations and distribution stations and lay foundations for sustainable energy infrastructure. In doing so, we make a direct contribution to the transition to a fossil-free future.

Friso Civiel is part of Friso Bouwgroep. As a result, we master all facets of construction. Since 1946, we have been building a sustainable living environment with and for each other. We are a versatile builder and literally accommodate all facets of construction. For example, we build homes, offices, bridges as well as factories and schools. We maintain and rebuild, we restore and renovate.

In addition, we are a developing builder, realizing our own housing projects. In our factories we produce prefabricated building elements made of concrete and wood. We do this sustainably and responsibly. As a committed builder, we are at the center of society and take our impact seriously. We are committed to our industry and are literally building the future.
