Combinatie De Betuwse Waard consists of construction companies Ploegam, GMB and Dura Vermeer, working together on the dyke reinforcement Wolferen-Sprok. This dyke reinforcement is part of the High Water Protection Program (HWBP): a collaboration between Rijkswaterstaat and the water boards. The client is the Rivierenland water board.
During this project we are reinforcing rejected dike sections. We are doing this for a combination of different failure mechanisms (macro stability, height and piping) over a length of thirteen kilometers. The dike reinforcement runs from the hamlet of Wolferen (Overbetuwe district) in the west to the hamlet of Sprok (Nijmegen district) and is interrupted by the dyke section of Lent where a river widening project was carried out several years ago.
Between 2019 and 2021, the construction consortium worked intensively on the design for the Wolferen-Sprok dike reinforcement. In this form of cooperation, the available implementation knowledge, innovative solutions and expertise were immediately better utilized in the planning phase.
Combinatie Betuwse Waard already has experience in the area of dike reinforcement. For example, GMB realized the dike reinforcement between Loenen and Dodewaard, Ploegam has experience with the Lent-Oosterhout-Loenen stretch, and Dura Vermeer worked with Ploegam on Room for the River Waal in Lent.
