First of Staad's own electric excavators is now available for pre-order
The 17-ton mobile excavator was newly designed and built by Staad entirely from scratch.

Staad's first proprietary electric excavator now available for pre-order

With the introduction of the STAAD 17W, Staad is taking a new step in electric earthmoving. It is the first fully in-house developed electric tire excavator from this Veghel family business and as of now it is officially available for pre-order. After previous firsts at (international) trade fairs, the time has come for interested parties to take the step from admiring to ordering.

The STAAD 17W made a big impression earlier this year at bauma in Munich and the TKD in Sint-Oedenrode. At the world's largest equipment fair, not only potential international customers came to see it, but also fellow manufacturers, suppliers and trade journalists. At the TKD, the Dutch public, and thus also many machine operators, got the chance to admire the machine up close.

Pieter Staadegaard, general manager of Staad, saw the reactions change markedly: "Whereas at the previous TKD in 2023, people were still skeptical about the battery capacity and charging infrastructure, now we heard above all that this is the product that sets the stage for an emission-free future. It is a truly Dutch product, tailored to the needs of our operators. An ex-factory mobile excavator with 57 standard options."

The thoughtful boom design ensures a very low swing radius.

Carefree running

Remarkably, the STAAD 17W performs excellently with a Powerbox 300 battery pack of "only" 300 kWh. In this weight class, 400 kWh is the standard in heavy-duty operation. Thanks to optimizations in the drive train and software, the machine runs an entire working day with less capacity without any problems. The more efficient control of electronics and hydraulics is due to the immediate power of an electric motor, where a diesel variant must first rev up.

The STAAD 17W is designed for versatile use, especially in inner-city projects such as demolition, sewer and new construction work. The mobile excavator weighs 17.3 tons, has a particularly compact design and a small swing radius. The low build height of the Powerbox 300 provides excellent direct visibility from the cab, enhancing safety on both the construction site and the road. "A common response is, 'You can't even see it's an electric machine... I want to work with this one!'"

For an electric machine, the STAAD 17W offers remarkably good rearward visibility.

Additional functionality

Another point that received a lot of attention during the TKD is charging flexibility. In addition to fast charging, the STAAD 17W can even be charged through a 32A power box, which can be found almost anywhere. Also, the Powerbox 300 can function as an AC power generator to recharge external electrical devices or compact machines. On weekends, it can even be rented out for festivals, markets or other events.

The STAAD 17W is on pre-order now for delivery in mid-2026. The cost price is known, and those who apply for subsidies before Oct. 31, 2025, will benefit from an attractive overall package. According to Staadegaard, the difference in TCO with a diesel version is less than ten euros per hour, subsidies included. "This makes the machine interesting even for self-employed operators who regularly run on zero-emission projects. For those who cannot or do not want to wait that long, the DX165W Electric is available from stock."

Further expansion

Based on the many good experiences with Staad's current generation of electric machines, the enthusiastic organization is confident that this new powerhouse is a fine and interesting addition to the existing range of electric models. After all, with the STAAD 17W, Staad is raising the bar for what Dutch innovation in earthmoving can mean.
