In case you are not an Ireland connoisseur: Sláinte means "cheers" in Irish. The youngest member of Smet Rental's line of debris crushers in Verrebroek was born and raised on Irish soil, but no sooner did it come to Belgium than Stefaan Smet and Manath Gevaert saw it with their own eyes on Irish soil.
We speak with Valérie Smet and Manath Gevaert (Technical Operations) about this remarkable addition to the already very rich rental program.
Louis Smet made the statement some time ago, "We rent the future." Manath: "Exactly that is what we stand for. So Louis and Stefaan wanted a smaller jaw crusher in the range, compact and easy to transport. I found the Irish brand Roco on LinkedIn, more than interesting at first glance. Contact was quickly made via email and soon we were invited to Ireland, for an introduction."
A little powerhouse, from Irish soil.
Manath and Stefaan took the plane to Dublin on November 22, 2019. "Already at the airport we were met with coffee by the Roco people, as there was some hurry due to a busy schedule. The first stop we made was at a customer's house, where the Roco R9R was breaking granite in a quarry. We can safely say that was a good, impressive first introduction to this relatively new brand. We were convinced by the qualities, but not yet impressed by the price. Within the already tight timeframe, we then drove to Ballytrain (the parent organization) headquarters. After extensive discussion, a deal had still not been made and the return flight was already waiting. With a sandwich in hand, we were put back in the car, heading to the airport. There, in the car, literally the final negotiations took place. It got very exciting... there were 3 minutes left and by both of us adding water to the wine, the deal was literally done in the last seconds! That really is what you call 'a close call'."
Smet Rental was the first to purchase the Roco R9R in continental Europe, a real first. Valérie explains, "With our knowledge and expertise, we adapted the compact debris crusher to the needs and wishes of our customers. The Roco R9R was delivered in November 2019, after which we immediately started the modifications. Customers now enjoy working with it, the machine is compact and runs electrically and on diesel, the Category 4.4 diesel engine operates at a constant speed as an aggregate for the electric motors. The Roco R9R can also be used on the mains without any problems, making the machine suitable for indoor use."
