It is also an established name in GWW in the Netherlands. Gebr. Dorrestijn GWW has relied for many years on the reliable equipment of the South Korean brand with factories all over the world. An interview with director Gijs Dorrestijn about his experiences with Doosan.
Gebr. Dorrestijn GWW is originally (1965) an agricultural contracting company and founded by the father of the three brothers Gijs, Bart and Cor. "He bought his first old excavator to go into the rental business," says Gijs. "Initially with 'strange' brands, but soon he ended up with Etec which later became Daewoo and eventually Doosan. So we have been familiar with the Doosan brand for a long time and have built up a nice fleet of machines in the meantime." Gebr. Dorrestijn GWW is anno 2021 a complete GWW (family) company and has specialized, among other things, in performing complete sewer renovations from A to Z. "We can completely unburden a main contractor in this with a complete team: crawler excavator, mini-excavator, earthworkers, shovel and dump truck."
The high reliability and perfect service apparatus of Doosan Netherlands is definitely a plus for Gebr. Dorrestijn GWW. "Anyone can sell excavators, but when it comes to maintenance or any problems, the true nature of a brand and the dealer apparatus behind it only comes out," Gijs acknowledges. "Doosan Netherlands has a dealer network with experienced mechanics who really know their stuff. Incidentally, we can't complain about the reliability of the machines. Of course there are sometimes minor issues, but they are quickly resolved. Noteworthy major struggles we have not experienced to date with our machines."
Among other things, Gebr. Dorrestijn GWW has two large Doosan crawler excavators type DX255LC, three Doosan mobile excavators of which two are DX140 and one DX170W-5, a small DX10z and another "classic" Doosan ETEC.
Doosan is also well represented in Europe with several factories. The brand is the third largest manufacturer of excavators worldwide and in the Benelux has been the best-selling mobile excavator for years. "Especially the powerful six-cylinder engine impresses," says Gijs. "The mobile excavators are fast and also behave excellently on the road. Nice to be able to drive comfortably from job to job." Gebr. Dorrestijn GWW values one brand for its entire fleet of machines. "We are very satisfied with the machines and service from Doosan Netherlands and would like to stick to one brand."
The family business recently ordered a new Doosan: a DX140W-5 to be exact. "The old machine has done over 14,000 hours, still runs like a dream, but lacks a swivel/tilt attachment. An expensive option. It was therefore more interesting for us to order a new DX140W-5 with also a cleaner engine," Gijs explains. He expects to replace the other type 140 for a new one next year.
Doosan is represented in our country by six dealers: Staad, Anema Arum, Nijland Service, R&L Machinery, ELM Construction Machinery and Snippe Erica. The manufacturer is constantly developing new generation excavators and also has a strong focus on the development of electrically driven machines.
