New standardization improves safety of excavators

The manufacturer of tiltrotators and quick couplers takes a new step in safety with the QSC locking system. An interview with Martin Frid from engcon's headquarters in Sweden about the new locking system, the latest developments and the changes in engcon's Benelux structure.

Engcon's equipment has changed the excavation industry tremendously over the past few decades. "Our rotary tilt attachments, quick couplers and related solutions make work faster, safer and more efficient," says Frid. "Operators no longer have to leave the cab to change attachments. Safety is therefore a top priority in the development of new products. That also explains the introduction of the new and safe locking system QSC, which since October 2020 we offer as standard (and free of charge) on the quick coupler under our rotary tilt attachments with an engcon DC2 control system, regardless of the type of quick coupler."

Standardized locking procedure 

QSC stands for a standardized locking procedure of attachments, which is controlled by a simple and user-friendly control panel in the cab. Frid explains the operation of the system in more detail. "The main change is in the fact that the bucket or other implement in the raised position can no longer be released for unlocking. This is because the system uses a ground pressure sensor. The functionality during the locking and unlocking procedure (tilt/turn) has also been greatly improved. The operator can turn and tilt when attaching a piece of equipment when it is not exactly straight in front of it. In addition, a visual and audible warning system has been added with light and sound during attachment of an implement. The standardized operation is identical regardless of make and model of excavator. We now offer QSC as standard under the rotary attachment and as a retrofit on existing equipment. Optionally, QSC is also available for the machine quick coupler."

Q-Safe (QS) is the world's safest quick coupler and available for all excavators in the weight class 6-33 tons (QS45 - QS80). Frid reveals in advance that engcon will come out with a version for more compact equipment, the QS40, in 2021. More details will follow at a later stage. 

Frid also let it be known that the Benelux organization will be split up. "We value a local presence in the various markets. This means that we will open our own office in Belgium as of January 2021. The Dutch office will of course also be retained. In this way, we will also strengthen our position in the Belgian market."
