A good example is the Vitaal Dorpshart Aalst project in the municipality of Waalre. There, contractor J. van Uijthoven & Zn. BV from Eersel is working on the redevelopment of the village center around Den Hof, which will become greener, more compact and future-proof. The company is renting a ZE85 electric excavator from dealer Pellen BV and Hitachi Construction Machinery Nederland for the ground and sewerage work for two years.
Since sustainability is an important principle within the project, the choice quickly fell on electric equipment. The 8.5-ton ZE85 proved ideal for work in the narrow streets of Aalst. “The performance is comparable to a diesel machine, but much quieter,” says operator Wil van Gerven, who has been working with Hitachi's for 25 years. “It takes some getting used to recharging, but otherwise it works exactly the same.”
According to manager Jurgen van Uijthoven, renting is the most logical solution in this case: “For a two-year project, it makes more financial sense to rent. The residual value of electric machines is still uncertain and through Hitachi Rental we can still work emission-free. Moreover, everything is arranged quickly. That convenience is worth its weight in gold.”
