Although electric construction equipment still accounts for a small share of the total market in most regions, progressive regions such as the Benelux and Scandinavian countries are making rapid progress. Government measures, regulations, and public demand in these regions have already led to a significant shift toward electrification.
In response to this rapidly growing demand, Develon (formerly Doosan Construction Equipment) is implementing a bold strategy to deliver a significantly expanded range of electric-powered excavators, enabling customers to quickly and efficiently transition from diesel to zero-emission machines. The new electric machines are built on the same robust platforms that contractors and operators know and trust, delivering identical performance to their diesel counterparts. At the same time, they introduce a new level of sustainability, efficiency, and operating comfort to the workplace.

Following successful projects in the Netherlands and Scandinavia, Develon is confident in the maturity of the technology and is ready for a broader introduction.
The expansion of the electric range underscores the urgency and potential of the European market, particularly its leadership in this area.
The first series of electric machines is based on the company's proven ‘-7 Series’ platform and covers key segments in both the compact and mid-size classes. The initial lineup includes:
- Electric mini excavators
DX20ZE-7, DX23E-7, DX85RE-7
- Electric wheeled excavators (class 10-20 tons)
DX100WE-7, DX160WE-7K
- Electric crawler excavators (class 20 tons and above)
DX230LCE-7, DX250LCE-7
The extensive electric lineup will be introduced in phases to support a smooth market launch. The DX160WE-7 electric wheel excavator and the DX230LCE-7 and DX250LCE-7 electric crawler excavators will be commercially available by the end of this year, enabling customers to deploy zero-emission machines in key segments.
The DX160WE-7K offers all the new features of the -7K generation of wheeled excavators in combination with a 100% electric drive. It is equipped with a 105 kW permanent magnet motor and a LiFePO₄ battery that can operate for approximately 10 hours under certain conditions. With an operating weight of approximately 17.3 tons and a bucket capacity of approximately 1.02 m³, the machine has the same digging and processing capacity as a traditional diesel model, but now with zero emissions and significantly lower noise levels, making it ideal for urban locations.

The DX230LCE-7 expands the electric range into the medium crawler segment and is designed for full performance in heavy-duty applications. It combines advanced electric drive technology with the robust basic architecture of the “-7” series to deliver a similar production capacity to the diesel variant, with an operating time of approximately 9 hours on a single charge. The machine is designed with operator convenience in mind: the controls, attachments, and service infrastructure are similar to those of the diesel model, while offering the benefits of zero emissions, quieter operation, and reduced vibration.

At the top of the first electric series is the DX250LCE-7, designed for heavy earthmoving and construction applications. The DX250LCE-7 has all the advantages of the DX230LCE-7, but with a larger battery pack, bringing the total autonomous operating time to 12 hours.
The DX100WE-7 electric wheeled excavator and the DX85RE-7 electric mini excavator will follow next year, completing Develon's first range of electric machines and covering all core segments from compact to medium-sized machines.

Develon's approach to electrification is based on practical innovation, strategic collaboration, and a commitment to delivering the right solutions at exactly the right moment when the market needs them. As a global manufacturer, Develon leverages its broad technical expertise and works closely with specialized European suppliers of electric drives and batteries, ensuring that each new model benefits from the latest technological knowledge.
Instead of pursuing electrification on its own, Develon has established a development model that is flexible, collaborative, and market-driven. By working directly with experienced system integrators and customers in leading electrical markets, Develon is able to accelerate development cycles and bring fully functional machines to market with confidence.
This partnership-based strategy enables Develon to deliver electric excavators that match the performance of diesel machines, but with advanced charging, powertrain, and control solutions tailored to the demands of European construction sites. This enables Develon to introduce new models when contractors need them, supporting the rapid shift to lower-emission, high-efficiency construction equipment across the continent.
Develon's electrification roadmap reflects a clear commitment: to develop robust, powerful electric machines through smart collaboration and deliver them with the reliability and uptime that customers expect.

With demand for low-emission machines growing rapidly across Europe—and particularly in northern markets—Develon's new electric excavators offer a powerful, ready-to-use solution. These machines combine zero emissions, low noise levels, and high operating efficiency with the durability and hydraulic performance expected on modern European construction sites. The result is a range of electric excavators that significantly reduce emissions and noise levels while maintaining the productivity, control accuracy, and uptime that contractors need every day.
While the company's internal teams and facilities continue to develop new electric models, Develon has also decided to work closely with external partners to manage the development of the product portfolio and avoid overlap, ensuring a complementary and market-oriented offering.
In the coming years, Develon will continue to leverage both centralized development and local innovation to accelerate its electrification plan. The company remains focused on delivering high-quality, customer-centric electric solutions that meet the rapidly changing demands of the construction industry.
