Logical expansion of automatic quick couplers

Automatic quick change has become the new standard in symmetrical quick change systems. This is also how Tom van Baars, Country Manager Benelux at Steelwrist, experiences it. At Bauma, there was therefore a lot of interest in the logical expansion of the SQ range with the SQ65 and SQ70/55.

Being able to change attachments without leaving the cab in seconds, whether it's a tiltrotator, hammer, pulverizer, scissors, screening bucket, vibrating block, you name it. From a productivity standpoint, this is what operators and their clients want.

In 2017, Steelwrist surprised the excavator world with the introduction of the SQ Auto Connection. The Swedish parent company called it "a strategic step toward a global standard for excavators to automatically connect oil lines." The technology is intended for use with quick couplers, attachment adapter plates and Steelwrist tiltrotators. Following the introduction of the SQ60-5 and SQ70 in 2017 and the SQ80 in 2018, the SQ65 and SQ70/55 are this year. With this, Steelwrist now has an SQ Auto Connection available for excavators from 14 to 50 tons.

Safety guaranteed

The SQ Auto Connection involves wedge-locking quick couplings according to ISO-13031:2016. To meet this, the SQ quick couplers and SQ tiltrotators are also equipped with the patented Front Pin Lock system. This automatically increases safety when changing attachments without using fragile electronics. In addition, as one has come to expect from Steelwrist, all quick changers are made from a single piece of cast steel and feature suspension with Expander Pins. This makes the quick couplers light, low in construction, yet very strong and stable.

Interchangeable with Oilquick

Incidentally, the SQ technology can also be used with attachments that are not hydraulically driven but still meet the Symmetric standard. The SQ quick-change technology can be used when multiple functions are required. In addition, the electronics, central lubrication or even a leakage line can be linked automatically. To allow the system to be used everywhere, the SQ automatic coupler is interchangeable with the well-known OilQuick systems, provided they follow the Symmetric standard. More on that later.

High Flow

An important part of the SQ Auto Connection technology is a high flow capacity of the hydraulic system, for which the patented Qplus couplings have been developed. Compared to the competition, these have a much higher flow with less resistance, which provides a considerable efficiency gain. The one-piece seals guarantee easier maintenance. In addition, the SQ tiltrotators have a High Flow feedthrough. This is clever and durable and ensures a significantly higher yield. This also saves costs.

Fast delivery

The SQ70/55 and SQ80 quick couplers are available from today, and tiltrotators equipped with them will follow in the last quarter of this year and in the first months of 2020.

The SQ65 quick couplers and tiltrotators are available for delivery from mid-third quarter 2019.

The headplates and weld-on parts for the corresponding tools and attachments are already available.
