Komatsu pushes boundaries with its new high reach demolition excavator that meets the European Stage V emissions standard.
The PC490HRD-11 is the newcomer within Komatsu's high reach demolition excavators. The machinehas the largest reach of the 60-ton machines and can work with six different configurations. It brings a 2 ton demolition tool up to a height of 32 m, a 3.34 ton tool up to 28 m and a 5 ton tool up to 17.4 m. The new machine allows operators to work, in complete safety and with perfect control, in maximum reach.
The machine was developed by Komatsu UK (KUK), taking into account customers' comments, and is manufactured in the nearby factory of Newcastle, in the northeast of England. The PC490HRD-11 functions as a complete system, practical and extremely accurate, very stable and comfortable.
Operating weight ranges from 55,200 kg to 73,400 kg. The Komatsu EU Stage V engine delivers 270 kW / 367 hp at 1,900 rpm, for a minimal environmental footprint. Environmental issues are receiving increasing attention and urban environments are increasingly sensitive to emissions. The PC490HRD-11 allows Komatsu's customers to bid on more tenders, provide proof of their environmental awareness and make their investment profitable in the long run.
The new PC490HRD-11 excavator is extremely versatile and can therefore be configured according to the needs of the job site. The system to change boom includes extra-large quick couplers that allow to reduce back pressure and oil heat, without reducing the flow rate. The system also possesses hydraulic locking pins installed inside the main boom to reduce the risk of damage.
The working range indicator of the PC490HRD-11 is a real asset. The operator can operate the machine over 360° without any risk to safety. It also shows the images of the camera that can be optionally attached to the end of the digging arm.
Komatsu has spared no effort when it comes to transporting the PC490HRD-11. Each machine part is equipped with large lifting eyes to lift and fasten it onto the trailer in complete safety. The machine has been made as compact and light as possible, without compromising on durability.
A new variable undercarriage is installed as standard on the excavator. It reduces weight and guarantees extraordinary stability despite the transport width of less than 3 m. The optional, hydraulically variable undercarriage significantly speeds up and facilitates the assembly of the machine on the work site, with a working width of almost 4 m, while keeping the transport width below 3 m.
Komatsu has also provided several features to increase operator comfort. For example, the front wiper and tilting cab can be activated from the joysticks without releasing the joysticks.
Stuart Blackham, Design Manager for demolition machines at Komatsu UK, said, "We are very pleased that a machine developed and manufactured by KUK is so appreciated and will be used throughout Europe." He added, "At Komatsu, our main aim is to improve and innovate in order to take current machine performance to the next level. The new KOMTRAX communication system the complementary Komatsu Care™ maintenance program optimize fleet support and management, they protect the machine from misuse and ensure maximum efficiency and work time.
