SPV knowledge network launched Lots of enthusiasm for regional meetings

Much enthusiasm for regional meetings

CROW and SWOV, commissioned by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Public Works, have started the SPV Knowledge Network. The aim is to help governments to better map road safety risks and to further develop the risk-based approach. In doing so, the Knowledge Network is helping to reduce the number of traffic casualties. The first regional meeting to support provinces, regions and municipalities in the field of traffic safety has now been held.

Road safety in the Netherlands is in need of a new boost. This is necessary, because after decades of declining figures, the decline in the number of traffic deaths is stagnating, while the number of traffic injuries has been increasing for years. 'This makes road safety a top priority that we need to work on together,'' said CROW director Pieter Litjens. The Knowledge Network aims to gather and disseminate all available and relevant knowledge surrounding the implementation of the Strategic Plan Traffic Safety 2030 over several years.

Regional meetings

The network has now started a series of regional meetings to identify the knowledge and support needs of the regions and to transfer knowledge and information. The aim is to help governments get started with the risk-based approach. To this end, the Knowledge Network pools knowledge and experiences and makes them accessible. The first meeting met expectations. There was a lot of enthusiasm from the region and the first fact sheets have been published.

In addition to a help desk and the website www.kennisnetwerkspv.nl where regions can go for more information, a special toolkit has been developed that allows governments to conduct a risk analysis
implement. Based on this analysis, the regions then create implementation programs that step
be carried out step by step.

Collaboration

The Knowledge Network invites all road authorities to actively participate. Only by working together can we improve road safety. The site contains all available knowledge concerning the implementation of the Strategic Plan Traffic Safety 2030. The SPV Knowledge Network is the knowledge site for every professional involved in road safety and the implementation of the SPV.

About the Strategic Road Safety Plan

Last December, the Strategic Plan for Traffic Safety 2030 was presented by the
Ministers of Infrastructure and Water Management and Justice and Security and administrators of provinces and municipalities. The SPV 2030 has a zero ambition: every traffic casualty is one too many. Governments, together with social partners, want to make a maximum effort to identify risks and then focus on measures to reduce those risks.
