Soil improvement with area-specific material

Building foundations for roads, bicycle paths, roadside paving, parking and parking lots generally requires a continuous flow of primary building materials and many transport movements. Terrastab, however, takes a different approach and can quickly create a stable construction with a very high quality using local materials. Without removal of material or supply of new foundation material. 

Excavation, disposal and re-surfacing and processing often takes a long time in civil engineering construction projects. Terrastab specializes in soil stabilization, reusing 100% of the existing material in a project. "This way we can upgrade the soil or even give it a new function, without having to supply or dispose of material," says Erwin Bonestroo of Terrastab. "Especially with the also on the current PFAS issue, that is a big advantage."

Romans

According to Erwin, the technique Terrastab uses for soil stabilization is as old as the road to Rome. "The Romans were already using this proven technique, which we have naturally developed and expanded further. For each project we look at the composition of the area-specific material to select the right binders and additives based on the intended future load. You can imagine that soil stabilization for a bicycle path requires a different composition than that for a crane siding when constructing a wind farm. The supply of additives and binders, the composition of which is determined in our own laboratory, is only a fraction of the total package and actually falls into insignificance. That also makes us a giant CO2-reduction compared to the traditional method."

High pressure strengths

Technical knowledge and a large dose of creativity make Terrastab unique in the world of soil stabilization. Erwin: "In recent years we have worked on leading projects at home and abroad. With the knowledge and possibilities to create high compressive strengths, working on slopes of dikes or realizing foundations for airports, the technique has more than proven itself. Constructors and engineers are also enthusiastic about our methodology. With our own R&D department and in-house laboratory, we continue to build on optimal constructions and expand the area of application. In addition to our already proven roadside paving with a life span of about ten years, we are now working on the development of roadside concrete with local material, again without the supply of primary building materials. In this way we can produce between 700 and 1,000 meters of roadside concrete per day, complete and ready-to-use. That is more than three times as much as in the traditional way."
