For the same money fiberglass dowels and tie rods

Significantly lighter, stronger and more durable alternative to steel

Fiber Dowels can now supply fiberglass dowels and tie rods at the price of the usual steel variants. With this, the advantages of fiberglass, such as significantly lower weight, greater tensile strength and higher durability no longer have to cost anything extra. Thus, road construction is offered an important alternative, which also contributes to the environment.

Dowels and tie rods - or anchor rods as the Flemish call them - have been made of steel since time immemorial. While this provides the required tensile and bending strength, as every concrete worker knows, it also carries a fair amount of weight. Fiberglass dowels and tie rods are about four times lighter than steel ones, while also having better mechanical properties. With a tensile strength of 600 - 1600 N/m², the fiberglass dowel is three times stronger than a traditional steel dowel, which has a tensile strength of 200-550 N/m². Moreover, low temperatures do not affect tensile strength, as is the case with steel. Tests have also shown that bending strength and the so-called failure moment are also higher than with steel variants. And, not unimportantly for the calculator, the price of fiberglass is always the same and does not depend on the price of steel, which is always changing.

Fiber Dowels

Only benefits
Add to this the unlimited lifespan, because fiberglass does not corrode, and significantly lower CO2 emissions than steel production, and the use of fiberglass dowels and rods also offers significant environmental benefits. Chloride and phosphates also do not attack the fiberglass connecting rods and dowels. The thermal conductivity of the composite is 100 times lower than that of steel, while it does conduct radio waves. This also makes the fiberglass rods and dowels ideally suited for areas where, for example, magnetically guided vehicles drive, such as container terminals. In short, only advantages, at a price comparable to that of steel dowels and coupling rods.

Various sizes
Fiber Dowels supplies the smooth-finished dowels for the Dutch market in sizes 25/500 mm and 22/500 mm (diameter/length). For the Belgian market, the fiberglass dowels are available in 25/600 mm and 22/600 mm (diameter/length). The profiled coupling bars, which are installed in concrete pavements to prevent horizontal drifting of the slabs, are supplied in thicknesses of 16 and 20 mm with lengths of 6 and 8 meters respectively.
