The compact wheel loaders (CWL) were already announced at the 2020 Bobcat "Next is Now" event, but now Bobcat has announced all the details and features of the L85. The first machine will be deployed at the Bobcat Institute on campus, where it will be used to train Bobcat dealers and customers.
By adding wheel loaders to its portfolio, Bobcat now has the largest range of loaders in the world of any manufacturer. To meet demand, an additional fourth production line has been built at the Bobcat plant in the Czech Republic. The capacity of the new production line is about 1,000 machines per year. The total new investment amounted to more than one million euros.
"The L85 was designed at the Bobcat Innovation Center on our Dobris campus. The L85 is built with proven components, including the engine, axles, electronics and hydraulics, that come from Bobcat itself or one of its top suppliers. Many components are already widely used in our compact loaders, mini-excavators and telehandlers. The L85 undergoes the same final assembly and testing procedures as all our other products.", says Jiri Karmazin, Product Manager Loaders at Bobcat.
The combination of the powerful Bobcat engine and hydraulics ensure excellent performance of the new compact wheel loaders. For example, they offer high stability and excellent breakout, push and pull forces, and they can work with an extensive choice of Bobcat attachments. Combined with intuitive controls, high operator comfort and ease of use, the L85 compact wheel loader is ideal for a wide range of jobs in a variety of industries. The L85 can be used in construction, landscaping, rental, industry, waste and recycling and in agriculture. It is also ideal for road work such as snow removal and maintenance, for example.
There are already multiple Bobcat attachments for loaders approved for use on the L85. More will be added in the near future. The current portfolio of attachments includes buckets, digging buckets for light equipment, combo buckets, pallet forks, turning brooms and snowblowers, allowing the L85 to be versatile.
The L85 comes standard with the Power Quick-Tach system that is compatible with common standard couplings. To advanced high-flow attachments such as snow blowers and turning brooms to use, the L85 can be equipped with a high-flow option, providing a hydraulic flow rate of 100 l/min.
Another unique feature of the L85 is the advanced attachment control (Advanced Attachment Control). This system allows the operator to switch to an alternative control pattern for the machine at the touch of a button. This allows independent control of, among other things, the engine speed (and maximum auxiliary current) and travel speed of the machine. Thanks to the 7-pin plug, the operator can operate even the most complicated attachments intuitively and effectively.
The engine is usually started with the standard key, but to quickly start and stop the engine during the day, the operator can also use soft-touch buttons conveniently located on the right-hand console. The machine is also equipped with a automatic parking brake (Automatic Parking Brake) and a Slope Assist function (Slope Assist). These automatically engage and disengage the parking brake on the L85 when needed. Such are already used in cars, but Bobcat is now applying them in its new wheel loaders.
The controls on the joystick are positioned for easy and comfortable operation, even during long shifts. The [Forward-Neutral-Reverse] direction switch is located on the front of the joystick and can be operated with the index finger. The controls for differential lock, turtle or rabbit mode, boom float position and auxiliary power control are all within easy reach of the operator on the top of the joystick.
The jog shuttle is not only used to adjust the setting of the L85 on the 5-inch LED touchscreen manage, navigate and confirm, as well as quickly switch to the image of the rearview camera. All screens for important information and settings of the machine are managed through the jog shuttle.
The cab of the L85 is designed with operator comfort in mind, as well as offering simple controls that allow the operator to work easily and comfortably even during long shifts. The seat and hand controls can be easily adjusted to suit the operator's posture. The position of the joystick, which is mounted to the seat, is horizontal adjustable. The steering column is adjustable in two directions - horizontal and vertical. The adjustability of these two elements is unique in the bobcat-CWL industry. The cab is has an overpressure and is completely sealed, so that the strictest FOPS II-safety requirements are met.
There are two all-glass doors on either side of the cab, providing excellent driver visibility on both sides. Also, the low angles of the windshield, the design of the hood that provides both protection and a good view, and the rearview camera ensure that the operator has good visibility from the cab. Also thanks to the small turning radius, even less experienced operators can work and maneuver the new Bobcat machine well.
To operate the main functions of the L85, soft-touch buttons are conveniently located on the right console. Inside the console is ample storage space for large water bottles and cups present; as well as a 12 Volt Charger and USB ports.
The L85 comes standard with a heating system. A full heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system is available as a factory option. The HVAC system not only provides the best working conditions year-round, but also helps defrost and reduce cabin humidity in cold weather.
