Electric swing loader ideal for tight yard

Visitors to the TKD last June and the Matexpo in Kortrijk in September were already able to learn about the Mecalac e-series: 100% electric machines for use in urban areas. In particular, the Ahlmann swing loader eS-1000 is of interest on construction sites. Peter van Keulen, employed by Ahlmann, explains why.

"Mecalac likes to be at the forefront of innovative machines," Peter said. "Back in 2018, the manufacturer showed a prototype. Meanwhile, there is an e-series on the market that shows great promise, including the 100% electric-powered eS1000. To speak in our terms, this electric machine takes the swing concept to a whole new level. Working quickly and efficiently, the Ahlmann swing loader delivers top performance on all construction sites. Being able to drive, maneuver and slew simultaneously is the key to its high productivity."

At Mecalac, the "e" stands not only for electric, but also for emission-free and ecological. In addition to the swing loader eS1000, the new e-series consists of the mobile excavator e12 and the dumper eD6. All of them are sustainable machines, which are ideal for inner-city projects with zero CO2 and particulate emissions due to their power, operating time and compactness.

Quieter and longer deployment

Zooming in further on the three different types in the e-series, the e12 is the electric version of the 12MTX. The mobile excavator has a battery capacity of 150 kWh, allowing it to be used for 8 consecutive hours without any problems. The swing loader eS1000 and the electric dumper eD6 are both equipped with a 75 kWh battery. The Ahlmann swing loader with 1,000-liter bucket capacity guarantees optimum stability, strength and work duration, while Mecalac, with the world's first electric dumper with 6 tons of load capacity, combines safety and comfort with strong performance in any terrain.

Peter: "The electric machines are absolutely not inferior to their diesel counterparts. Indeed, the various innovative technologies used make them very interesting. Consider, for example, the high-quality lithium-ion batteries, efficient motors and advanced auxiliary systems. As a result, they have a longer deployment time and require less frequent recharging. Other benefits include less noise or vibration and lower maintenance costs, simply because there are fewer filters or oil changes and service intervals are greater."

Technical details

For the enthusiast, a few more interesting technical details of the eS1000. The lithium-ion NMC battery has a capacity of 94 kWh. That's good for about eight hours of use. Charging time is limited to four hours. The swing loader has three electric motors: one for propulsion, one for attachments and one for the swing system and, of course, zero CO2 or particulate emissions.
