BrainCreators, the innovative specialist in cognitive Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Unihorn today announce a collaboration to realize an intelligent solution for visual road inspection. Thanks to the intelligent solution, inspectors will soon no longer have to observe road defects manually. The solution will be further developed with Unihorn's fellow consulting firms, in addition they will also jointly add domain knowledge to the solution.
The intelligent solution, 'INSPECH', will soon be able to detect damage to roads from camera images. The camera images are taken by a specifically designed vehicle equipped with a camera setup for visual road inspection. INSPECH also contains proprietary algorithms that automatically classify road segments according to the guidelines of the CROW or Rijkswaterstaat. In this way, the solution provides immediate insight into which road segments are in need of maintenance. If the standard is exceeded, an inspector will be informed through an automatic ticket, which is then forwarded to the road manager. This makes it possible to inspect roads faster, cheaper, safer and more efficiently. Moreover, soon inspectors will no longer have to go on the road separately, but can make decisions from the office.
INSPECH will be realized with the digital platform BrainMatter that makes AI accessible. Thanks to BrainMatter, Unihorn's domain experts and the research firm's various partners are able to add their domain knowledge about visual road inspections to "INSPECH. Given BrainMatter advises which labels are useful and helps to annotate data quickly and correctly, Unihorn's domain experts do not need data knowledge. As a result, it is possible to develop a structured and well-balanced dataset by themselves at lightning speed. In this way, "INSPECH" can automatically recognize assets and detect damage, such as cracking or fraying (stone loss).
"The Netherlands' road network is one of the most densely branched traffic infrastructures in the world. We are therefore constantly innovating to provide road operators with the best information. This allows us to keep the road network in good condition," said Jeroen Bleeker, business manager at Unihorn. "Thanks to the cooperation with BrainCreators, with the BrainMatter platform we have acquired an innovative technology with which we can realize our visual road inspection solution, 'INSPECH', together with our partners."
Glenn Brouwer, Co-founder and CRO of BrainCreators says, "As road inspectors with BrainMatter add domain knowledge to INSPECH, we can make the process of visual road inspection more intelligent. This makes road inspections better, faster and safer at lower operational costs."
