Construction quay walls HES Hartel Tank Terminal completed

The finish line has been reached! The quay walls, jetty and associated works for the new HES Hartel Tank Terminal to be built were completed on schedule today, December 17, 2019. The Combination HHTT, consisting of Van Hattum en Blankevoort (Royal VolkerWessels), Mobilis (TBI) and Royal Boskalis Westminster, handed over the construction site to client Port of Rotterdam Authority. The total amount involved in this contract is over EUR 100 million. December 2017, the Combination HHTT started the construction of this challenging project on the Maasvlakte.

The project included the construction of a 1,200-meter-long deepwater quay wall, a connection of the new quay to an existing quay, a 1,000-meter-long quay wall for five barges - equipped with shore power - and a 350-meter jetty with four berths. In addition, earthworks and dredging were carried out.

Ronald Paul, COO of the Port of Rotterdam Authority, praises the teamwork with the Combination HHTT: "Because of all that engineering, building a quay wall for a tank terminal is already a complicated job. Moreover, it involved one of the deepest protruding quay walls in the Port of Rotterdam. Despite the discovery of several archaeologically interesting shipwrecks, Combinatie HHTT completed the work within the agreed time. That deserves a big compliment!"

Jeroen Bonekamp, director VHB on behalf of the combination HHTT, is proud of the achievement: "The bundling of the knowledge and skills of the combiners has, thanks to the good cooperation with the Port of Rotterdam Authority, produced a smoothly running job: technically perfect, without serious accidents ánd delivered on time. We have shown what we are worth!"

In parallel with the construction work for the quay walls and jetty, construction of the tank terminal has been in full swing since Q4 2018. The HES Hartel Tank Terminal, a storage terminal for oil products and biofuels, is expected to be commissioned during 2021. More information can be found at www.hesharteltankterminal.eu
