Electric trucks contribute to this air quality by emitting low levels of NOx and particulate matter compared to diesel trucks.
Quieter trucks make it possible to perform tasks outside busy hours and window times, such as early morning, late evening or even at night. This reduces the load on roads during rush hours. Environmental zones are also no longer an obstacle and can even be driven into buildings with an electric vehicle.
An electric vehicle has approximately 30% fewer moving parts than a vehicle with a regular motor. This means fewer service calls and lower maintenance requirements.
Electric trucks make drivers' lives easier. A quieter drive train with zero emissions is the basis for a significantly improved working environment both inside and outside the vehicle. And because an electric truck has full power and torque from standstill, while at the same time there is significantly less driveline vibration, it also provides an enjoyable driving experience.
The demands that shippers place on transport companies when it comes to the sustainability of their transport solutions are becoming increasingly stringent. Where there are advantages, there are also disadvantages. These are the disadvantages of electric trucks:
- Infrastructure is not yet sufficiently developed.
- An electric truck is currently more expensive than a diesel truck.
- Batteries make the truck heavier. When a truck in Europe is equipped with more than four batteries, this can reduce its payload capacity.
- Electric vehicles bring new environmental and societal challenges. Where batteries are produced and how they are charged have a major impact on how clean the technology is.
- One of the biggest stumbling blocks to the expansion of electric trucks is the fear that the vehicle will not be able to reach a destination due to battery (charge) problems. Special scheduling software can be a solution to this.
