Asphalt life extension: cause for celebration!

The most common damage to asphalt is crushed stone raveling. When fraying starts, it seems like seemingly minor damage, but over time it can lead to massive damage to the asphalt pavement with all its consequences. The cause of the fraying is the aging of the bitumen. 

The bitumen loses its flexibility over time, resulting in fraying. Esha Infra Solutions BV developed a bitumen emulsion with a rejuvenating effect that restores the aging bitumen's flexibility to its original approximate level. This prevents further fraying and extends the life of the asphalt pavement. This results in less traffic disruption due to reduced maintenance intervals and huge savings in the use of fossil and mineral resources. This then provides a substantial CO₂-reduction. Last month, Esha had two reasons for celebration:

• Eight million square meters of asphalt pavement have now been extended in service life with Pentack LVOv.
• Rijkswaterstaat proceeded to validate Pentack LVOv after thorough research and a validation process.
