Their shear system is 21 years old this year. Since 2008, the Fliegl shear system has also been built to transport road construction products such as sand, gravel, soil, (greasy) clay, (broken) rubble, etc. In the first years this was mainly used as a soil dumper and was extensively tested in extreme off-road work. The first Fliegl shear systems were adapted for asphalt in 2012 and this currently results in a further developed product that is very much in line with practice.
The practical benefits
There is no danger of tipping over during unloading, safety is paramount and the system provides operational reliability. Unloading can take place in tunnels and buildings, under traffic lights, overpasses and trees. The number of hours of downtime is very limited because the bin is always clean after unloading. Even with, for example, ZOAB, OPA, SURF asphalt and very sticky clay. Unloading takes place horizontally and all road construction products can still be transported. When Fliegl user Ton van de Laarse (Millenaar en van Schaijk) was asked how he could sum up his shear trailer in one sentence, he said: ''Safe, maneuverable and very easy to maintain''.

Practical solution to combat asphalt segregation
In recent years, Fliegl, in cooperation with TU Vienna (A) and TU Darmstadt (DE), among others, has conducted research into the influence of the Fliegl shear system on asphalt segregation. These studies found that with conventional tipping, both thermal and mechanical segregation takes place. That is, the product being discharged is not homogeneously discharged into the asphalt paver, resulting in very bad spots in the newly laid road surface. As a result of these investigations, the following conclusion was further drawn: Bitumen segregation and temperature during transport are greatly reduced by using the Fliegl shear system. With the shear system, all layers of asphalt in the container, large and small bitumen, hot and colder material are simultaneously dosed into the asphalt paver. One thus unloads a very homogeneous product resulting in a much longer life of the asphalt. This saves the client a lot of maintenance during the warranty period and at the same time the client in cooperation with the hauler operates very sustainably.
