Aesthetically pleasing vehicle restraints

These were fitted with vehicle restraint handrails by Saferoad Holland. Despite the aesthetically pleasing end picture, Saferoad still managed to keep the handrail work affordable by using standard elements.

As a manufacturer of road safety systems, Saferoad has representation in almost every country in Europe. "We can make grateful use of the expertise of our sister companies," says Herman Odijk of Saferoad Holland. "We also proved that here in Eindhoven for combination Heijmans-Ploegam. The architect had already expressed his 'predilection' for our Birsta 3PH2b and Sicuro ARC vehicle restraints in the preliminary phase by referring to them in the design. The beauty of this was that we were able to fill it in with standard elements."

High yielding capacity

The Birsta 3PH2b originated with Saferoad Sweden, while the Sicuro ARC is a development of its sister company in Norway. "Both systems are composed of three horizontal beams mounted on uprights with a center-to-center distance of 2 meters," explains Harry Klos of Saferoad Holland. "Artworks KW01 and 05 are equipped with the Birsta 3PH2b, which is characterized by a very slender appearance, while KW02 is equipped with the Sicuro ARC, a slightly more robust design with rounded elements. In addition to the fact that the vehicle restraint handrails look very aesthetically pleasing, they obviously offer high retaining capacity in accordance with NEN-EN 1317. For this particular project, the architect created a color scheme. Thus, the uprights and upper handrail of the Birsta 3PH2b are finished in the color RAL 7022 and the two lower beams are hot-dip galvanized. The Sicuro ARC was completely coated RAL 9002."

Saferoad Holland provided the complete package for the construction consortium. "The contractor buys a turnkey package from us, so to speak," says Klos. "We supervise the entire process from engineering and measuring to production, assembly and delivery including all documentation. In addition to our wide standard range, we also specialize in designing specials. We notice that there is an increasing need for distinctive design and continue to continuously expand our product portfolio. They we have recently introduced the Eco-Rail, a group of systems developed specifically for the Dutch and Belgian road network consisting of square tubes. This concept also excels in simplicity and affordability."
