GWW magazine attended the festive inauguration of the renovated Maastunnel in Rotterdam this morning.
The two-year renovation project was crowned with a first ride through the tunnel by an antique RET bus. The passengers: 24 Rotterdammers, winners of a competition held especially for the occasion. The bus drove into the tunnel tube at 5 a.m., later arriving back at the party location via the other tube. While the passengers were treated to breakfast, feverish work was going on behind the scenes to get the tunnel ready for Rotterdam's morning traffic. At 6 a.m., after two years, the monumental tunnel could be used as before.
