Veldhuizen Wagenbouw continues sales and rentals unabated

Veldhuizen Wagenbouw from Groenekan has been extremely successful in selling trailers and BE combinations for decades. However, when that market became saturated and regulations were further tightened, Pieter Veldhuizen shifted its focus to converting construction vehicles for special applications. In a short time, Veldhuizen Trucks captured a substantial market share, thanks in part to the in-house developed mechanical widespread steered axles.

This article focuses on the activities related to the BE driving license. Here, in addition to a varied range of sales and rentals of trailers, tractor-trailers and Clixtar drive-up trucks, the company also focuses on modifying 3.5-ton commercial vehicles, such as fitting air suspension, air brakes, tow hooks or accessories. The Iveco Daily and Mercedes Sprinter have been reworked countless times by Veldhuizen, but in fact all makes and types are welcome. For example, Pieter Veldhuizen sees that the Ford Transit is clearly on the rise due to its favorable operating costs, and has cleverly capitalized on this by developing a new towbar with ball and catch for this model, which can tow 6 tons. "Ideal for transporting an aerial platform or midi-excavator of up to 5 tons," he says.

Innovative manufacturer

Veldhuizen has made a name for itself in the world for compact trailers and semi-trailers as a highly innovative manufacturer, using smart structures and high-quality materials. The designs that roll out of the production hall in Groenekan are well thought out and full of cleverness in every detail. Take for example the renewed lightweight tandem trailer with a max. load capacity of 3.3 tons. This trailer is constructed from Domex steel, which is lightweight yet one and a half times stronger than other types of metal. Furthermore, the handy step between the axles catches the eye and in no time three supports can be mounted to transport materials. Pieter: "Smarter construction results in a more efficient layout and, at the end of the day, 300 to 600 kg more cargo can be carried. That may not seem like much, but in the transport sector every kilo counts."

Since 2013, the rules have been tightened considerably. Anyone with such a 'new' driving license will quickly run up against the limit in practice. By providing customized solutions and continuously expanding the product range, Veldhuizen Wagenbouw continues to distinguish itself in the market. For example, an adequate response is being made to the rise of electric transport and a towbar has been developed for the Toyota Proace Electric, MAN eTGE and Maxus eDeliver 9 with up to 3.5 tons of towing weight. "Production is running at full speed and has not stopped for a day even in corona time," Pieter says. "There are enough parts in stock to go three months ahead without supply. It is a luxury that there are more sales than we can build, so we are going to expand the workshop considerably this year. Rentals are also going well; well into May everything is rented out."
