Such is the case for Heijmans, which is currently working on the viaduct as part of the Complete Double Lane System (VDR) project on the south side of Schiphol Center.
R. Breure bv is a versatile and all-round infrastructure contractor and has been a steady relationship of Heijmans for more than twelve years. "Also for projects outside Schiphol," Ruud Breure emphasizes. "We operate nationwide in that respect, but have a fondness for Schiphol. Here we are effectively at home and know all the ins and outs. Working at an airport is very different from operating in a city and requires specific knowledge and skills. We have all the necessary certificates, periodically attend toolbox meetings and, not unimportantly, our employees know their way around."

"For the viaduct, we are our client's right-hand man and together we go through all facets regarding the earthmoving work," Breure continues. "In the preparatory phase, for example, we located cables and pipes and removed paving so that the contractor could install new foundations, among other things. Part of the project is the construction of the new viaduct over the A4. Here, too, we are proving our added value with our modern equipment, which includes cranes from 800 kilograms to 20 tons, as well as our own articulated trucks with flatbed trailers and sawing machines. We are continuously present during the project with a changing workforce, depending on the need, and can switch quickly. Our 30 employees are always on standby, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. If necessary, we also jump on the machine ourselves. That is the strength of a family business."

R. Breure BV is expected to remain involved in the project until the end. "The cooperation with Heijmans is extremely pleasant. We are also active for other clients at Schiphol and (far) beyond."
Specialist work
In addition to earthmoving, R. Breure bv excels in another line of business. Incidentally, it is not part of project VDR. "As a subcontractor, we perform a lot of specialized work, including on bridges and viaducts," says Ruud Breure. "This ranges from specialized demolition work and the application of different types of wearing courses to the application of cast asphalt and flexi gutters on structures." In addition, R. Breure bv builds bituminous joint transitions, such as the Breure FPEJ, designed in-house. The Breure FPEJ (Flexible Plug-in Expansion Joint) is the first Dutch bituminous joint transition with a proven long service life without the need for anchoring in a structure. "We developed the joint transition entirely in-house and has undergone testing all over Europe. The design has been approved by the Department of Public Works for use in all categories of roads in the Netherlands and has a proven long service life of at least ten years. Because we are self-sufficient with our own equipment for all this specialized work, we work with many contractors."
